happy release day & a book in review!

Brief Summary:
Taylor always thought if she and Hunter could be in the same city at the same time, their chemistry might lead to romance-and this winter in Chicago, they are about to find out...
After landing her dream job as an assistant buyer for a luxury fashion retailer in Minneapolis, Taylor Hartigan's life becomes a nightmare. Performing mundane tasks and catering to the ridiculous whims of the boss from hell, she sees no opportunity for advancement. Though she's never quit anything in her life, Taylor walks out and heads home to Chicago, the city that holds her heart. With her confidence shaken and no job on the horizon, she knows she has to find herself again.

Once she arrives, she's shocked to learn hockey player Hunter Riley has been traded to the Chicago Buffaloes. Taylor met Hunter the previous season when his hard-hitting play broke the glass in front of her. Meeting him after the game, something passed between them--and has stayed with her ever since. Since she followed his career, she knows he's coming off a disastrous season in Houston and must rediscover his game in Chicago--or face losing his hockey dream.

The timing couldn't be worse for the pair to become involved since they're both at a crossroads but the chemistry between them can't be denied. Taylor worries that their budding relationship won't survive the challenges of rebuilding two broken careers. Can the new versions of themselves fit together? Or tear them apart?

Or will love be the bottom line, after all?

I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review. The rom com genius that is Aven Ellis does it again. It's unreal to me how well she can write a book that has wit, tugs on your heart strings, and overall just gives you all the feels. This books was a little different for because Chicago plays such a huge role and Aven writes the city beautifully! I told her she was making me want me visit there asap because I wanted to experience every little thing that Taylor and Hunter were. Taylor has the likable qualities that you look for in a new friend and Hunter is EVERYTHING. If you're in the mood to head to Chicago to keep up with next best rom com, look no further! The Bottom Line is a 5 star read and needs to be the next book you snuggle up with, xo!

Life | Halloween Donut Decorate Off!

My oldest childhood best friend Jen and I love the Netflix show Nailed It! (For those of you who haven't seen it, you have to watch-it's hilarious!) Basically the show takes non bakers and has them attempt to make epicially decorated desserts. Think like everything you see on Pinerest and then attempt to make it as beautiful and you "nailed it!". It's an amazing concept, so I had this idea that we have our own decorate off! We'd each design 6 donuts-3 regular glazed and 3 chocolate glazed for Halloween and then have the internet vote-loser buys the winner dinner at the restaurant of their choice! (winner is listed down below!)

Here's a shot of all of our decorating items, minuses the ones we made her husband run out to buy ;)

Here's our final products-Jen's 6 donuts are on the left with mine on the right!

This is my fave one I made; a 4 eyed monster! Breakdown on what I used to make him cause it's pretty epic if I do say so myself!

For the body, I used;
regular glazed donut
vanilla frosting that I dyed blue using 3 different Wilton food colorings
middle eye is a gummy candy
3 top eyes are candied eyes
blue & green sugar sprinkles
 His tentacles are Crunchy Cheetos aka skinny cheetos that I covered with Wilton black sparkly gel frosting.

Shop this post:
 Jen's 6 donuts (on the left) won! By a lot, which makes me v sad, cause I'm a sore loser, haha! I'll keep you posted on where we go for dinner :) But honestly, this was the most fun I've had in a while and I loved being so creative. We've decided this is our new tradition and will be doing it again at Christmas! If you decide to have your own decorate off, send us your pics and use hashtag #pbdecorateoff so I can stalk your posts, xo!

Life | Something New

I once read an article that to be successful in the bloggyblog world you needed to stick to one topic. I never believed in that (clearly-ha!) which is why I run a lifestyle blog full of beauty, books, fashion, and my life. I normally keep things around here light and fun which is pretty much how I live my life, but there’s one obsession I have and it’s something I want to start sharing here.

I’m really passionate about missing people. And if by sharing the stories of missing people here and getting a little bit more exposure for them and their families, then why not?! I think I’ve always been interested in missing people cases. I can recall a missing poster that was up in my local mall when I was way younger that I tried to memorize (I can still remember that he was wearing a black puffy winter jacket in the photo). I’m not sure if he was ever found (and it’s not like my dad was really willing to follow the storyline for his 7 year old daughter-haha!).

As a kid, I watched A LOT of Unsolved Mysteries. I mean almost every Saturday night I was tuning in with my grandparents to keep up with the true crime of America. There were times I would be seriously creeped out at what was happening, but I always wanted to know more-the why, how, etc. As I’ve gotten older my love for true crime has only grown with my focus really in missing people.

Here are the cases I’m currently following;

Maura Murray; a 21 year old woman who went missing in Haverhill, NH on Feburary 9th, 2004- if you have any information at all, please contact NH State Police 603-271-2663

Sheryl Sheppard; a 29 year old woman who went missing in Niagara Falls, ON on January 2nd, 1998- if you have any information at all, please contact

Crystal Rogers; a 35 year old woman who went missing in Bardstown, KY on July 4th, 2015- if you have any information at all, please contact the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office at 502-348-1870

Angel Riley Izraael; an 11 year old girl who did not get on the school bus on Thursday, Sept 6th, 2018- if you have any information at all, please contact the East Orange PD CIB at 973-266-5000

In the next few weeks to come, I'm going to share each of these stories with you just so they have another place on the internet. Remember, someone knows something.

What's something that you love and wish you could do more to help with? Let's chat in the comments, xo!

Beauty | Glow baby, Glow!

Highlighters have been around for years and have been the trend for about the past 2 or 3 years, so when a coworker stopped in me in the kitchen to ask where she should apply it? I was baffled! But then I realized that it’s really just hitting drugstores in full force and some makeup newbies may not know. So I was inspired to share my fave highlighters, some tips on how to wear it, and my current combo that gets compliments on the daily!

When it comes to this glowy trend, you want to make sure you are wearing it on the highpoints of your face where the light will naturally hit. I’m talking tops of your cheekbones, above your brows near your temple, down your nose, tip of your nose, Cupid ’s bow, and chin! You can go crazy and hit all these spots to up your glam or you can just hit the tops of the cheeks and call it a day.
Pro tips for looking like you’re glowing from within;

Use the right brush; either a fluffy, come to a point brush like Morphe's M501 or a fan brush Morphe's E60

After applying with the Morphe’s 501 use a damp beauty blender to gently tap the highlighter in-this will soften the highlight and it will literally look like you are just naturally glowing.

Use a fan brush when you want a smaller amount of highlight for a small pop of glow.

Grab a loose pigment highlighter, like Kylie Cosmetics Fiji and mix it with a setting spray like MAC's Prep + Prep use this to set your makeup and have a hint of an overall glow all day!

My current highlighting combo; Kylie Comestics Koko Kollection palette and Wet N’ Wild’s

What’s your fave highlights? Are you on board with the glowy trend? Let’s chat in the comments, xo!

Fall Bucket List

Fall is my fave season. I live for the chilly nights, scary movies, and gorgeous foliage. This coming season I wanted to make a list for myself to make sure that I get outside more and really enjoy my favorite season. So in no particular order, here’s what I want to do before its winter!

    •    Peach/Apple Pick-living in the Hudson Valley we have the best apples and I never get out & pick them. In all fairness, my dad works at a golf course on an apple orchard and brings them home to me haha!

    •    Bake with picked fruits-apple crisp, peach crisp, applesauce, apple cinnamon buns, the list is endless…(also if you want my Grandma’s famous apple crisp recipe, let me know and I’ll share it here!)

    •    Horror movie marathon! Self-explanatory.

    •    Bonfire with smores-totally doable at my Grandpa’s for our end of season partay.

    •    Go for a hike!

    •    Haunted House or Great Pumpkin Blaze-there is tons of Halloween based events in my area and I never take the advantage to get out to them.

    •    Pumpkin picking!

    •    Apple cider donuts for breakfast on a lazy Sunday-if you haven’t had one of these donuts, run do not walk to the nearest stand that sells them. And warm is better.

    •    Have two photoshoots to bank some content

    •    Switch my lotions to a warmer, more fall scent and actual use them

    •    Same goes for candles-faves are Leaves from Bath & Body Works and anything apple!

What’s on your fall bucket list? What’s your area known for? Leave it below, xo!

#pbtryittuesday with Rodan & Fields Lash Serum

*disclaimer; I was not aware of all of the backlash around this product before I received it as a gift and tried. The gift came from my coworkers for my bday and two of them are actually avid users of the product, but with that being said, here’s my thoughts!

Long lashes are something that I envy. I always want to have the longest lashes known-like touch my brows long and I feel like there’s not one mascara that can actually achieve this for me. (I have recently fallen back in love with Loreal’s Telescopic Mascara which now comes in Carbon Black-hello, win win!)

My coworkers started trying out the R&F serum and after a month or so, I was dying to know their secret! Then for bday, they all went in on a tube (which can last for months since you’re only using a very small amount at a time). Here’s my experience;
before wearing Maybelline Falsie Mascara

before wearing Maybelline Falsie Mascara

before without mascara

Product Details;
Get the appearance of lush, longer-looking lashes with R+F Lash Boost™, a nightly eyelash serum. You’ll see a difference in as little as four weeks, and the best results in eight weeks. This conditioner can also be used to achieve fuller-looking brows.

My thoughts;
Smell-no smell! Which thank goodness, who wants to put something smelly on their eye lids?!
Feeling-feels cooling when you apply. A small amount goes a very long way! You have to be careful when applying that you don’t get it in your eye. I didn’t have any burning when applying.
Overall-When I first started applying the product, I definitely noticed a change in my lid color-pink/red, esp near my lashes. My eyes didn’t hurt, but when they would itch during the day, I would find I didn’t have relief from itching them, but almost a soreness-think scratching a bruise! Not totally unbearable, but not a pleasurable experience.
Did I see a difference?-YES! I didn’t think I was, but then bam! I had Snap filter lashes.
Will I buy it?-I’m not 100% sure if I would repurchase. I will say there’s still so much in the tube, so it seems to be an every 4-6 month purchase which isn’t bad for the money. I think the long term effects and not knowing is the thing that scares me.
after with no mascara

two months after wearing Loreal Telescophic Carbon Black Mascara

Beauty | Transitioning into Fall Mani

I obviously live to do my nails. Like clockwork, you know I'm doing a mani/pedi once a week...seriously, my life feels hectic if I don't. I love when the seasons change cause it's time to bust out polishes I haven't used in a while that I love (After School Boy Blazer, it'll be good to see you sweetie!) So for my first fall mani, I wasn't sure what I wanted to do, but since I was staying a btooth's housesitting while she honeymooned-I decided to see just what she had. Well I went through every polish and started putting aside fall transition shades and bam! this gorgeous combo was dreamed up!

I knew taking these shades and putting them together would lead to a warm mani. I don't do different finger manis often, but when I do, I'm instantly reminded how much I actually love them! What's your fave season for polishes? Do you prefer bright for summer, pastels for spring, darks for winter, or nudes for fall? Let me know. xo!

a book in review! & giveaway

Brief Summary;
Executive, wife, and mother of an outgoing first-grader, Sydney Clayton crushes her day-to-day obligations at work but flounders in the cutthroat world of parental politics.
She manages to avoid the local drama until she’s faced with an ultimatum: join the Forest River PTA or risk her daughter becoming a social outcast. Sydney reluctantly becomes treasurer, and takes the recently vacated position of the president’s sidekick. If protecting the children’s freedom of speech, one best friend ban at a time, isn’t complicated enough, Sydney and her husband receive an unexpected offer for their house they don’t think they can refuse.
Embroiled in the deception and manipulation rife among the elementary school moms, Sydney struggles. Should she sell the home she worked so hard to build in a town where betrayal runs rampant? Or should she stay put to avoid the fallout from uprooting her child? As Sydney focuses on what is best for her daughter, and lets go of her judgments, she finds friendship can develop in very unexpected ways.
Warm, witty, and wise, Go On, Girl dramatizes the dilemmas of life in the suburbs and the bonds shared by women. Perfect for fans of Class Mom and I Don’t Know How She Does It.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. If you are looking for your next real life read, look no further! Hilary does an amazing job at not sugar coating real life situations in her 4th novel. Sydney is a likeable lead who will feel like a friend who you're sitting down to have coffee with and catch up. Go On, Girl would make for a great book club read among moms to get dialogues started on how they handle all of their hats (as a dog mom only, I find life to get hard, I could only imagine how human moms do it.) I recommend this 5 star quick weekend read to anyone who is in the need for a dose of suburban life, xo!

Beauty | #tryittuesday with Monat

I'm a hair care junkie-I'll literally try anything to get my hair to look it's best, so when my IG friend Sarah asked if she could send me a sample or two, I was down! This 4 part system was so intriguing to me.

Product Details;
MONAT’s ingredients are naturally-based, safe, pure and sustainable. But with other brands recognizing the power of botanical oils, how is MONAT any different? The answer lies in our rich formulations that make these naturally-based ingredients work in harmony with each other, combining and reacting to pump up their natural properties to take MONAT to the next level. We say no to toxic ingredients.

My thoughts;
I decided to use the oil to really try to get the full effect. I added the oil and slept in it for not one, but two nights (what can I say, I'm a legit the laziest beauty gal ever.) and then I used the system-two washes, in shower masque, and then conditioner.

right out of the shower-no frizz!

first blow dry and straighten-no makeup/filter (if it wasn't obvious)

 hair holding up in the heat at the btooth's rehearsal dinner

 even after a color, my hair felt great because I prepped it with Monat a week before!

Smell-I will say I wasn't in love with the smell-I prefer a smell that is delicious and will continue to smell good throughout the day. The smell was just kinda lackluster and didn't really smell like anything.
Feeling-the oil was really nice and didn't feel heavy in my root at all. It didn't get all over my pillowcase or sheets. The shampoo felt thick and oily, which I don't love, but I was surprised how well it rinsed out. I loved the in shower masque! It felt luxurious and rich. The masque is a product that I normally wouldn't use, but after rinsing it-I can't wait to use it again! The conditioner was nice and rinsed out super well. During my final rinse, I wasn't completely sold on if my hair would have any difference to it.
Aftermath-I opted to not put anything else in my hair so I could see what the hype was about. I blew it dry and was surprised how nice it felt. I straightened like I normally do and saw it had a nice bounce and feel to it. It wasn't frizzy and it didn't feel heavy. I was really happy with the final outcome!
Will I buy?-I will definitely keep my eye on the site and if there's a sale, I will be purchasing either the oil or masque for sure!And rumor has it they have a platinum line, so I'll definitely be picking that up to give it a try!

Beauty | Do's & Don'ts for the rest of summer!

Have you been loving summer?! Of course you have! I wanted to share some last minute Do's & Don'ts for summertime skin.
Don’t skip the SPF cause you’re going full glam! Use a BB or CC cream that includes some; my fave is IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC Cream, $38.

Do set your makeup even if it’s a light glam day; my pick is Tarte Ready, Set, Radiant Skin Mist, $25.

Do up your skin care game by putting your makeup wipes and sheet masks in the freezer for a nice treat after a day in the sun. My faves are: Simple Micellar Makeup Wipes, $6; KNCBeauty Collagen Lip Mask, $25; and Masqueology Intensive Moisturizing Rubber Mask, $4.

Don’t skip on mascara just cause you’re heading to the beach or pool-use waterproof mascara and take it off with baby shampoo later!

Do go with a dewy look. Summer is the best time to glow; use a liquid highlighter mixed with your foundation like Cover Fx Custom Enhancing Drops in 'Moonlight,' $42.

Don't skip the beauty sleep, use a pillow spray before you rest your head. My pick is ThisWorks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray, $29. *Bonus tip: throw it in your fridge 15 minutes before spraying it!

Do use a DIY shimmer setting spray: Mix a loose highlight like Kylie Cosmetics  loose highlighter in 'Fiji,” $14, with a setting spray like my holy grail MAC Prep + Prime, $26, and shake it up. Viola, you have a DIY dewy setting spray!

What's your favorite summer Do? Let me know in the comments or let's chat on IG, xo!

Life update | Where have I been?

I know, I know-where the heck have I been?! But the good news is I'm back-well, I'm trying to figure out a schedule-but you get the gist! I think for the time being I'm going to post twice a week; Tuesday and Thursday. This was I can pre-plan content and not aim to have a Monday post.

Now to talk about why I dropped off the face of the interweb, I've been busy. I know people say that and really they have a thing or two going on, but if you could've seen my July planner/calendar you would understand. I had something pretty much every single day-after my 9-5, on the weekends, etc. Between planning babytooth's bachelorette party & bridal shower (which were a month apart), to my Grandpa needing to see a surgeon in the city, to Miki getting ready to give birth, it's been nuts.  Now I know you're reading that saying okay, but you aren't going through these events, which is true, but planning parties and doctor's visits on top of working is tough work!

I'm not complaining in the slightest (alright, maybe a teeny bit, I just need like 325 hours of sleep and I'll be good.), but it's taken me away from blogging which is my thing. The next few weeks are a tad crazy; my Grandpa is having surgery today, babytooth gets married on Sept 1st, and there will be a new man in my life v soon-Mik is due the 31st! (yep, my besties really like to pile on the life events!) I couldn't be happier for my family to grow by a brother in law and to become an aunt to a sweet little babeee!

bday dinner with my fave coworkers!

showering my baby mama with love!

loving on that bride-to-be who will soon be walking down the aisle!

sweatymesses with my fave roadtrip partner in Canada!

So bare with me, peeps! I promise I'll fall back into a swing of things and you'll be seeing a lot more on p&b real soon ;) in fact, Tuesday & Thursday for next week are in the que! In the meantime, tell me what's happening with you in the comments and be sure to follow me on insta: so you can see sneak peeks of posts to come, xo!
