a book in review!

Brief Summary:
Nerd. Weird. Ugly. That's me. And I don't want it to be anymore.

Now is my time to make my mark on the world. My college roommate doesn't make it easy. Neither does her brother, Jesse, but for completely different reasons. He makes me feel things I've never felt before.

Wanted. Important. Beautiful.

But we can't be together because it isn't real. Someone like him could never fall for someone like me. We aren't meant to fit together.

Even if I fall apart without him.

 Review:
I was browsing through books I had bought off of BookBub (which seriously, sign up now!) and decided to give this one a shot. While it had great moments, it also had moments where you wanted to smack the main character because she was so stuck in her head. It makes the story feel more real. Violet's coming of age journey has all a chick lit reader needs; drama, love, laughs, tug at the heart string moments. I recommend this 3 star book to anyone who's looking for a quick, good weekend read, xo!

Try It Tuesday | Bath & Body Works Sheet Mask

Who knew that B&BW made sheet masks?! Not me, until a few weeks ago when I did a double take at my local mall! I knew I had to get my hands on one of these bad boys and decided on the Shea based one, cause we all know my skin type is dry, dry, dry.

Here are the product details from Bathandbodyworks.com;
Our nourishing face sheet mask with shea butter & jojoba oil is designed to infuse your skin with supercharged ingredients. Your face will feel smooth as butter. Shea butter, that is. Trade your dry winter woes for skin that glows!

Here's what I think;
Smell-No smell!
Feeling-It has a milky consistancy when you take it out of the package and is VERY wet! Doesn't smooth out as good as other sheet masks, but it did have a good shape.
Aftermath-My skin has NEVER felt smoother! There was a lot of left over product after wearing for 18 minutes, so I wiped it all over and it dried down really nicely.
Will I repurchase? Absolutely! I'm excited to try more of their masks! Lives up to the promise above :)

To Purchase
B&BW $4.95 or 3 for $12 right now!

Have you used any of the Bath & Body Works sheet masks? Let me know, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

Status Update: I’m going offline for a while… Wish me luck! xx

Lifestyle journalist and thirty-something singleton Melissa hashtags, insta's and snapchats her supposedly fabulous life on every social media platform there is.
That is until she wakes up on her birthday, another year older and still alone, wondering if for all her internet dates, love really can be found online? The challenge: go technology free for a whole month!
Forced to confront the reality of her life without its perfect filters, Melissa knows she needs to make some changes. But when she bumps into not one, but two gorgeous men, without the use of an app, she believes there could be hope for love offline.
If only there was a way to choose the right guy for her…

Review:
Such a cute story! I really enjoyed this romcom, it would make for the cutest grab your girls and head to see it in the theater movie. Melissa is so likeable as she navigates the single life and there's so many real life moments which make the story like it's one of your friends telling you about their night out. Her challenge however would be nearly impossible, go completely off the grid for a month?! Yikes! I recommend this adorable 3 star book to anyone who needs a feel good read, xo!

Guest Post by Gina Dickerson

What inspired Mortiswood

It wasn’t really a conscious decision to write in the dark, urban fantasy genre. The idea of Mortiswood first came to me while I was on holiday with my family. We were staying at a holiday cottage – a farmhouse – in Devon. The farmhouse was set in about twenty acres of land, a mix of woodland and fields. It was down a really long drive and overlooked both the fields and woods. We could even see deer from the kitchen window!

One afternoon when everyone else was off swimming, I sat down with my laptop by the window and watched mist creep out from within the trees and stretch across the fields toward the house. It was so quiet, and the mist appeared almost as if it were alive, that the beginning of Mortiswood sparked and I wrote out the first chapter curled up in the chair as the mist crawled around the farmhouse.

As the first draft of book one developed, I knew I wanted the series to be full of a mix of things I like reading. I wanted it to be a dark fantasy with a thrilling adventure, full of both magical and powerful people and creatures, and all with a dash of romance. The mythology woven throughout the tale is primarily Norse, with some of the realms inspired by my readings of Norse myths. Although it’s a magical series it is also set in the real world, mostly in Thanet, Kent.

I can’t talk about Mortiswood without mentioning the inspiration behind one of the main characters, the Vallesm – my own Siberian husky. He’s a big fluff of fun and would rather snooze in the garden than fight demons, but the way he moves and acts went a long way in helping me bring the Vallesm wolf to life. He is, in essence, my Vallesm!

A picture of my pooch – the Vallesm inspiration!

Blurb:
The problem with secrets is they don’t always remain secret, no matter how long they’ve been buried.

The dark side of magic beckons to Kaelia. It whispers in her ear, seducing her with the promise of yet more power. Having discovered the truth behind the goddess Hel’s connection to Bran the necromancer, Kaelia is finding it increasingly difficult to tell who is on her side and who is against her.

Drawn into an age-long battle, she must fight to protect not only those she loves, but also the humans that her enemies, The Salloki, would devour. Confronting an evil never seen before outside the realms of myth and magic, Kaelia is torn. Should she join with Bran? Is he really as trustworthy as he says?

But trust cuts both ways as Bran too discovers, unearthing both secrets and lies about his true identity. There is also someone he wants to protect above all, even if that price is unleashing upon Mortiswood the fearsome Vanagandr.

As secrets, lies, magic, and emotions weave their tangled web, who will lose their hearts and who will lose their lives?

Sometimes the line between good and evil is so blurred it fails to exist…

Try It Tuesday | Kate Somerville Exfolikate

I've been testing out the Kate Somerville Exfolikate for a while now and I'm going to be honest, the jury is still out!

Here's the product details from Sephora's website;

What it is:
A dual-action exfoliator that smooths and polishes to reveal a glowing, radiant complexion in as little as one use.
Solutions for:
- Dullness/uneven texture
- Pores
- Dark spots/uneven skin tone
 What it is formulated WITHOUT:
- Parabens
- Sulfates
- Phthalates
What else you need to know:
When you use ExfoliKate in the shower, the steam will help to activate the enzymes, making it even more effective.

Here's what I think:
Smell-Kinda smells like Christmas! Cinnamonish and warm. Which isn't a bad thing, but it's not my fave scent on my face.
Feeling-It kind of stings on your face as you circle it around. Which feels good, but hurts a little (in a good way).
How I use-I like to massage it in and around-focusing on my really dry spots (which is everywhere at this point!) and then letting it sit for about 5 minutes or so. Then I rinse with warm water or a makeup wipe (cause let's face it, I'm lazy #lazygirlprobs) and then I either do a sheet mask or moisturize right away
How often I use-twice a week!
Will I continue to use? Yeah, I definitely see a difference in my skin right after using and even the next day. It is on the pricey side, so I'm not sure I will repurchase (full disclosure; mine came in my winter FabFitFun box) I'll keep you posted on if it becomes a holy grail or not!

Her Defiant Heart by Monica Murphy Publication Date: March 29th, 2018
Genre: New Adult Romance

 Review:
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Monica Murphy's writing style sucks you right in. She writes in detail, but still leaves you wanting more. This is book is the first in a trilogy and it is like the appetizer to a 3 course meal. It has everything you want in a first book; back story, drama (lots of drama), lust, steaminess, the list goes on! I was turning the pages begging to know what would happen next for Jensen and Rhett and you will too. Trust me when I say you'll want to savor every minute of this one and then read it again before the next book comes out! I recommend this 5 star read to anyone who needs a new steamy series to start, xo!

Her Defiant Heart ebook

Life can feel like a cruel joke. I grew up poor and motherless, with a father who never got over his wife’s abandonment. But now he’s gone too, and I’m dead set on finding the woman who so carelessly tossed me aside when I was a baby.
I want revenge. And I’m going to get back at my mother any way that I can.
I change my name. Start my new life in college, and just happen to cross paths with the gorgeous, ultra-rich Rhett Montgomery. He’s immediately interested in me, not that I’m surprised.
You see, I planned it that way. I meant for him to find me. He’s the one connection to my mother, and I’m using him, so I can destroy her. But I didn’t plan on Rhett being so charming. Sweet. Sexy.
And I definitely didn’t plan on falling for him either…

Excerpt:
“Your friends are calling you,” I finally say.
He glances over his shoulder, then returns his attention to me. “They can wait.”
I’m surprised he’s putting talking to me above wanting to spend time with his friends. “Well, my homework can’t.” I gesture to the open textbook by my laptop. “Nice to see you again.”
“Nice to see you again? That’s all I get?” He slides into the booth seat across from mine, leaning across the table like he wants to get closer to me. “I bet you don’t even remember my name.”
“I bet you don’t remember mine either,” I toss back at him, tacking on an annoying giggle after I say it.
He makes a face, like he knows I’m fake as hell. “Jensen.”
“Rhett.”
His smile is back, wider than ever. “You should come sit with us.”
“No, thank you.” My voice is prim, like a snotty rich girl’s would be. Wouldn’t they find it hilarious to know that I spent my teenage years living in a mobile-home-slash-trailer park, in the decrepit old fifth-wheel my dad called our new home right before I started eighth grade.
One brow lifts. “My friends would love to meet you.”
“I doubt that.”
“It’s true.” He glances over his shoulder again, and they call out to him, a couple of choice words ringing in the air. The waitress glares, stomping over to their table to give them a lecture I suppose, and Rhett whirls around so he’s facing me once more, his expression full of amusement. “Or maybe not.”
“Go hang out with your friends,” I tell him gently, wanting to give the impression that I am the perfectly understanding girlfriend. He might not have those types of serious thoughts about me—yet—but my good behavior can enter his subconscious, right?
“Jensen. I want to see you again.” He reaches across the table and touches the top of my right hand, his warm fingers practically burning my skin. I snatch my hand away from his, my fingers trembling as I clutch my hands together in my lap.
One casual touch from him and I feel like I’m going to erupt in flames.
It’s terrifying.

a book in review!

Brief Summary:
My life had a plan. Until he invaded it and stole it all away. My captor took me and I became a pawn.

His strategy changed and he sent me away to WAR, because money is everything in this world.

In my WAR, though, I found peace.

I couldn’t help but find love where I least expected it, with a man who lived a battle every day of his life
…all inside his head.

But then my captor came back for me.
Yet, this time, battle lines had been drawn and I was protected.

So we thought.
Even though my WAR was raging,
my captor would fight to the death.

The good guys always win, right?
Not always.

All’s fair in love and WAR, right?
Not this time.

***WARNING***
This is War, Baby is a dark romance. A really dark one. So dark you’re going to wish you had a flashlight to see yourself to the end and someone to hold your hand. Strong sexual themes that could trigger emotional distress are found in this story. This story is NOT for everyone.

Review:
This was in my to be read pile for a while and I finally pulled the trigger. And DAMN, this story is a whirlwind. It's up, it's down, and all over in between. At times, it seems like it's going to level out and then bam-something crazy happens again! Don't take the warning lightly, but if you love a steamy and at times a little raunchy of a read, then pick up 4 star This is War, Baby and buckle up cause it's a wild ride, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:
Instant New York Times BestsellerThe newest, highly anticipated novel from beloved #1 New York Times bestselling author, Colleen Hoover.
Sometimes it is the one who loves you who hurts you the most.
Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up—she graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid, everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.
Ryle is assertive, stubborn, maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant, and has a total soft spot for Lily. And the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head. But Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his “no dating” rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.
As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan—her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears, everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.
With this bold and deeply personal novel, Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all-too-human characters, It Ends With Us is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Review:
If you haven't read anything by Colleen Hoover, here is where you should start. Her writing style is unparalleled and absolutely brilliant. She has a way with words and will grip your heart strings and won't let go. I once tweeted her saying she could just take my paycheck because I must read every book she's ever written. I can't speak enough about how much I adore her books. Lily's story is so gutwrenching in moments and honestly is one that will stay with you for days after. When I finished, I recommended this 5 star book to all of my friends. This story is one that should be read by women of all ages, do yourself a favor and pick it up ASAP, turn your phone off for the weekend, and be prepared to not want to put it down, xo!

Hair Care Routine | Featuring Maple Holistics

You may not know this about me, but I have a super specific hair care routine. Long or short, doesn't matter I always wash my hair the same way. I've added in a new shampoo and I couldn't be more happy with it!

Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo is my latest shampoo obsession and I have a feeling it will be around for a while! It's so natural and gentle, here's what it's in: Aqua, Jojoba Oil, Botanical Keratin, Argan Oil, Tea Tree Oil, Lavender Oil, Rosemary Oil. Doesn't get more natural than this! I was even able to use it with my tape-in extensions. It has a very light smell and suds up so nice (which is a bonus when washing the extensions because you want to touch them as little as you can while in the shower. I liked to suds the shampoo in my hands and then get in there.)

Hair Care Routine
Step 1; I wash my hair once every week. I'll try to stretch a few more days if I can and I wait as long as I can before using dry shampoo. You can train your hair to not needing to be washed often and honestly, my hair hasn't been healthier.
Step 2; After soaking my hair, I go in with a Purple Shampoo-either Clariol Shimmering Lights or Fanola No More Yellow and let it sit for 6-10 minutes (if I feel like my hair needs a boost, I'll throw this on my dry hair before I head into the shower) then rinse
Step 3; Now that my hair has been toned up with the purple shampoo I like to go in with a shampoo that will really clean my hair and get out any build up. Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo does just that! I really feel like it makes my hair super clean and doesn't linger with a smell-which makes me happy! I like my hair to smell clean, but I don't want it to constantly smell like shampoo, ya know?
Step 4; Time to condition! Now what I use varies depending on if I feel like I've been dry or if I just need to throw some on the ends. I love Paul Mitchell Blonde Forever Conditioner or Aussie's Cleanse and Mend Conditioner
Step 5; Rinse with cold water (as cold as you can stand!) This helps seal your hair follicles and make your hair super shiny!
Step 6; Squeeze excess water out and wrap in a towel (skip this part if you have extensions!)
Step 7; Use the Wet Brush to comb through, this is the best brush I've ever owned & it's Rose Gold, so bonus! and add in some Moroccan Oil

Tada, that's how I take my hair from dirty to squeaky clean! If you want to give an all natural, made in the US shampoo, then give Maple Holistics Tea Tree Oil Shampoo a try for FREE! Let me know what hair products you've been loving in the comments, xo!

Brief Summary:
These Royals will ruin you.

Ever since Hartley Wright met Easton Royal, her life hasn’t been the same. There are enemies behind every corner and dangers beyond each door. When tragedy strikes and steals her memories, she can’t trust anyone, not even the blue-eyed boy who promises her that everything will be all right.

Because while Hartley’s memory is full of gaps, her instincts tell her Easton is dangerous. She doesn’t know if he’s the snake in the garden or her chance at salvation. The chaos he brings wherever he goes is too much to handle, the intense feelings he evokes are too confusing to unravel.

Easton wants her to remember. Hartley thinks it’s better to forget.

She might be right.

Tragedy. Treachery. Trust. Hartley has to face the facts—in this world, you can’t escape the Royals.

Either you live by their rules or you die by them.

Review:
I was SO excited that Cracked Kingdom was finally coming out! After the cliffhanger in Fallen Heir, I was counting down the days and then bam, it came out a day early. Cracked Kingdom has everything you have come to expect in a Royal story; drama, steaminess, Royals doing what Royals do, and more. I will say there were a couple of spots that felt a little rushed and not proofread, but that's just because I'm overly picky and beta read for a few authors so I literally read to make sure stuff like that doesn't happen! But that didn't ruin the overall story, there were a few bombshells along the way, but this being the last story in the series, I thought everything was wrapped up nicely! (Now do not @ me, that is not a spoiler...) If you haven't jumped on the Royal bandwagon, then pick up Paper Princess and get sucked in cause you have a 4 star finale to look forward too, xo!

#28daysofskincare | recap 2!

You know what I suck at more than skincare? Taking pictures of said skincare...I guess I haven't really taken any pics because I was using just the same things over and over. But I've picked up some new things so my next (and final!) recap will have some new products and my thoughts on them!

So far overall, I need to incorp more serums to help with these wrinkles and fine lines. Everyone says "there's no way you're 33!", but honey my face in the morning begs to differ (also, my poor coworkers who see me 5 days a week and maybe 1 of them I actually put on makeup. Somehow they still love me!)

I promise more pics will come next week and maybe I'll even do a little giveaway, who knows ;) Xo

a book in review!

Rinkside in the Rockies #2, can be read as a standalone
236 pages
Release Date 14th February 2018

He lied to her. Fed her the same lines as he did all the other girls. Instead of proposing, he dumped her on national TV. Would a romance with a hockey superstar prove just as disastrous—or could it be the greatest love story of her life?

Cast as America’s reality show sweetheart after being jilted on a dating show, Skye Reeve is ready to stop being a brokenhearted woman by proving she’s more than what the camera portrayed her to be. She’s landed her dream job as a TV lifestyle reporter and promises to work hard to be a success.

Skye also vows never to be swept up in a fairy tale romance ever again, as she obviously has no clue what real love is.

Being in the same city as Denver Mountain Lions hockey star Maxime Laurent, however, might make this last goal impossible.

Dealing with ghosts from his own past, the Belgian hockey star is known for keeping his life off the ice private. He’s not sure if outgoing Skye could be a match for him, but he can’t deny his attraction to her.

When the two embark on a romance, will they be able to move forward from the past to let love into their hearts?  With no reality blurred, will Skye find real-life love to be what she had been looking for all along?

Review:
I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I love reality TV so when Aven decided to take on an ex-reality star I was all in. Skye is sweet, funny, stylish-SO stylish, and a lead you will be rooting for. And Maxime is everything you want in a book boyfriend and more. He is so kind, thoughtful, and of course-drop dead handsome! The banter between these two is romcom goal. There's a certain kissing scene that is Aven's steamiest to-date and it is worth the read alone! I'm always awed at Aven's ability to make each story it's own and each tops the last in the humor and Reality Blurred does not disappoint. Reality Blurred has something for everyone and even has two of the cutest and furriest little stars. Pick this up and clear your schedule because you will not be able to put this 5 star read down, xo!
 Excerpt:

I have a message from Maxime.
He has never sent me a message.
My heart is in my throat as I dare to click it open:
Skye, I promised myself if I ever thought you needed me, I would not make the same mistake I made in Brussels. I won’t sit by and merely watch. So here I am. I saw the pictures in that online tabloid after the game tonight, and after so long of not seeing them cover you, I wanted to make sure you were okay. I know you’re not sad—your eyes tell me that—but invasive photos like that must be upsetting. Are you okay?
Maxime is reaching out to me. He wants to make sure I’m okay.
I read his sweet words over and over, thinking no man has ever done anything so wonderful for me. It shows genuine concern.
I study it, transfixed by his words. Maxime seems haunted by our missed connection in Brussels. He remembers my despair in the cafĂ© that night; he saw the look of sadness in my eyes. Something about these photos with their false headline compelled him to action.
This is how a real man acts.
I begin to type a response:
Maxime, nice to hear from you.  I

Wait, does that sound like a business reply? I delete it and start over:
Maxime, thank you for reaching out. I
Thank you for reaching out? Is that how I reply to an interesting, sexy, mysterious, European man that I wish I had the opportunity to know better?
I bite my lip. Do I want to know him better? After all, my judgment doesn’t have a stellar record. I thought Tom was wonderful. Bleurgh. He turned out to be a colossal wanker, as Sierra’s British boyfriend, Jude, would say. I type what I really need to ask Maxime:
Maxime, you aren’t a wanker, are you? Because I really don’t think my self-esteem could take it if I was wrong again regarding men.
I laugh as I type. Now that would be an interesting reply. I’m about to hit delete when I go on autopilot and hit a different button instead.
            The send button.
GAH! SHIT! I JUST HIT SEND BY MISTAKE! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
In a panic, I think of how to fix this, but what I can I say? I typed out the answer as a joke to myself?
I shouldn’t be allowed to have a phone.

Happy Release Day!
