a book in review!

Next up on what I read on vaca is Lost Girls by Merrie Destefano!

Brief Summary:

Yesterday, Rachel went to sleep listening to Taylor Swift, curled up in her grammy’s quilt, worrying about geometry. Today, she woke up in a ditch, bloodied, bruised, and missing a year of her life.
She doesn’t recognize the person she’s become: She’s popular. She wears nothing but black.
Black to cover the blood.
And she can fight.
Tell no one.
She’s not the only girl to go missing within the last year…but she’s the only girl to come back. She desperately wants to unravel what happened to her, to try and recover the rest of the Lost Girls.
But the more she discovers, the more her memories return. And as much as her new life scares her, it calls to her. Seductively. The good girl gone bad: sex, drugs, and raves, and something darker…something she still craves. The rush of the fight, the thrill of the win—something she can’t resist, that might still get her killed…

I love a good dark read at the beach, don't ask me why, but the darker and messed up the book the better! The Lost Girls summary sucked me in and I couldn't wait to read this! I had a hard time putting this one down for the simple fact I needed to know what happened to Rachel. Like I had to know what happened to her. And then when I found out, I needed to know WHY it happened. This one will keep you on the edge of your seat trying to work out Rachel's journey to current day. I recommend Lost Girls to anyone who loves a mystery that will keep you wanting to know what happened next cause this 5 star read is one that will keep you guessing, xo!

I have been using the same products all summer long to get my perfect dewy skin. So I figured it's time I share my ways with all of you!

Getting my perfect summer skin actually starts the night before. I used Clix It's Acne Eraser pen before bed after I wash my face on any blemishes. When I wake up in the morning, I rinse the product off with cold water and ta-da, blemishes be gone!

Next I go in with Coola's BB Cream in Light. I use two pumps in my fingers and then blot around my face, nose, chin, and forehead. Blend with fingers and now you have an SPF base.

Now I mix my holy grail foundation Loreal Pro Glow in 2 shades that are my perfect tan blend. I use a squeeze of each on two different fingers-normally pointer and middle (in case that matters to anyone but me...!) I dab these along my face and then use a paddle face brush to blend it all out.

Last but certainly not least, I go in with my fave highlighter of all time, Kylie Cosmetics loose powder highlighter in Santorini (which is sold out, I'll keep an eye out for a dupe!). I apply this on all of the high points of my face; top of my cheeks, down my nose, tip of my nose, chin, cupid's bow, and above my brows. This highlighter packs a punch and a little goes a looooong way.

Finally, I set my face with MAC's Fix Plus setting spray and I'm done. Most days this is all I wear with a few coats of mascara. If I'm going full glam for the rest of the face, I'll add Kylie Cosmetics blush and bronzer from the Koko Kollection face palette. Essence Brow Me and clear brow gel. Check back next week for my go to simple, one product eye look that is so easy!

Let me know in the comments what you use to get your perfect dewy look, xo!

*this post is sponsored by clixit & Coola as I received these products in PR for my use and review

bachelorette recap | week 8

Okay meeting Rachel's family because her sister is very pregnant.

Family Date: with Peter. First up, they head to shop for the new baby which is really fun and cute.
cut to Eric and Bryan: how did Bryan know this info of Peter & Rachel's one on one date weeks ago? Hmmmm...
Ohhhh, snap! Peter finally told Rachel that he's falling in love with her. Peter's parents had a whirlwind romance and have been married 36 years, I think he shouldn't have such cold feet about it. He knows it can work. Peter is very sincere as he tells her family the whole story. I like what Rach's mom is saying to Peter. I'm glad she is driving the point home to him that she is there for marriage. I'm also glad Peter is sticking true to himself and not asking for her hand in marriage just yet. It would be fake if he did since we all know how he is feeling. His meeting with her family went great and I still see him sticking around.

Family Date: with Eric. I'm happy Eric is up front with Rachel's family with his past. Eric is a sweet guy. I don't think it necessarily matters that he's never been in love. He's grown leaps and bounds during this process. He got to know Rachel and got to know their relationship and is moving at a nice pace. I trust Eric would treat Rachel well and give her everything she wants and needs. With all of that being said, I don't think he's the one. And that makes me sad for him.

Family Date: with Bryan. Eric you are spot on with the "she wore the watch". I totally hear what you are saying! That means something, as dumb as it may be, it's very symbolic. Bryan is the ONLY one meeting her friends. This is TELLING, guys! I'd DEFINITELY make my pick meet my friends during my hometown. God, he is beautiful. I want him to my boyfriend. He is such a momma's boy. Hearing talk about how he wants to love Rachel forever is so sweet. Rach's mom is a stickler. I like her. Rachel is getting uncomfortable with her mom giving him the business. I think she desperately wants them to approve cause that's who she wants to pick. I'll fight Rachel's sister...this is the hardest they've been on one of the guys. Where did he go? I feel like that was editing. You ask questions, expect answers there, sisterbear. Man oh man, this poor guy is being put through the ringer. I feel like now is the perfect time to remind everyone, I will date Bryan if he doesn't end up with Rachel. So have no fear, I'm here!

Okay, now we are on to Spain! To be honest, I'm completely confused. Where are the damn fantasy suites?!

One on One: with Eric. "One on one full of fun." That's not a great catchphrase, Big E. Oh look it's a helicopter, in case you forgot what show you're watching. Oh Spain looks lovely! Complete sidebar; please don't make her wear any more eye makeup than what she has on right now. It's the perfect look for her. I liked their chat. Ohhh, I like this bell wish dealy. They've had a great date. I can't figure out Rachel's face when Eric says he loves her the first time. Why with the eyeshadow?? Oh shit, here it issss....fantasy suite! R&E are headed there and I think they'll have a beautiful night. He is head over heels. He can't wait to start their life. Ugh, Rach don't break his heart...!

One on One: with Peter. Okay, this is the date I've been looking forward to cause the teaser have a lot of tears at Peter's hands. I like their banter. The day has gotten heavy and then bam, a little cutie pops up. Rachel's little girl "Hiiiiiiii!" is close to my dog "Hi". Come on producers, way to draw it out by having that little girl pop up with flowers. Peter is probably counting his lucky stars cause shit was gonna get real. Is she gonna say "I love you" to Peter? Let's find out friends...She almost cried over a damn cork? She really, really, really is into him. I think she wants him to validate her feelings by saying he will propose. If he says "I will propose" she will pick him. I respect what Peter is saying about an engagement means marriage. I think a lot of people get engaged without being ready to be married, especially on this show, but they go hand in hand. I get where they both are at in this. If she knows he is the ONE, then being bf/gf at the end is fine. Shoot, are they breaking up?!?!? He looks pretty upset, she's clearly upset. Maybe she should tell him him she loves him. Would that change things? UGH, this is a lot to take in!

WTF. DO NOT MEN TELL ALL ME NEXT WEEK CHRIS HARRISON. COME ON. You leave us with a to be continued and then drop this dumb shit on us. Come on man. Chris Harrison doing us DIRTY! Let's discuss this week's drams, cause in 2 weeks were going to be in the thick of the finale...xo!

a book in review!

I ended up crushing my book goal of reading 4 books on vacation and read 6! So stay tuned for all the reviews coming your way!

Brief Summary:

"This is the best slow-burn romance I have ever read."--New York Times bestselling author, Penelope Ward

If I closed my eyes, I could still see them--all blonde sunshine, ocean-blue eyes, and long limbs. The glint of Lake's gold bracelet. Pink cotton candy on Tiffany's tongue. My scenery may have changed from heaven to hell, but some things never would: my struggle to do right by both sisters. To let Lake soar. To lift Tiffany up. The sacrifices I made for them, I made willingly.

A better man would've walked away by now, but I never claimed to be any good. I only promised myself I'd keep enough distance. If I'd learned one thing from my past, it was that love came in different forms. You could love passionately, hurt deep, die young. Or you could provide the kind of firm, steady support someone else could lean on.

Lake was everything I wanted, and nothing I could ever have. I was nobody before I knew her and a criminal after. The way to love her was to let her shine--even if it would be for somebody else.

Book two in the Something in the Way series, an epic, 3-book saga of forbidden love...

I love Jessica Hawkins writing style and read everything she puts out, so when I saw book 2 was out in this trilogy I know I needed to read it. Someone Else's Sky picks up months after Something in the Way left off, but your instantly sucked right back into the love triangle. This story will leave you wanting more for Lake for sure. Tiffany is more likeable in this novel than she was in the first. I feel like this story is a must for what's next and what's next is going to be epic. If you like love triangles, pick up this series and hit the beach to read distraction free, xo!

bachelorette recap | week 7

Hometowns! Here we go! *remember this is a recap which includes spoilers

First hometown: Eric in Baltimore. Okay with them sitting on the bench & playing bball, I can see what it would be like for them as a couple. I like what Eric's friend is saying about him, feels real and genuine. Digging the vibe with his family, them all dancing on the couch was super cute. I'm glad Eric's Aunt brought up race. Rachel needs to understand bottom line she's being judged by everyone, doesn't matter her color or who she chooses, people judge. Eric chatting with his mom is giving us a lot of insight into Eric's past. I feel like Eric is absolutely ready. Wow, Eric and his dad are having a moment, I'm proud of who Eric became. I have good feelings after this hometown date, but I feel like Eric is going to get his heartbroken in the end. As much as I see them together, I feel like he's more into her than her of him.

Second hometown: Brayn in Miami. He is handsomeeeee, ugh guys I can't. He's gonna dance?! Stop don't tell me he's gonna dance. His ass in those pants while he's dancing...damn. His momma is obsessed with him, went right into to hug him. I mean I get it. He is really a momma's boy. His mom is saying he's been a player, but she doesn't think this could happen for him so quick. His mom didn't laugh when she threatened Rachel's life...she's dead ass serious. But I do think she will be on board with whatever he wants ever. Ugh come onnnn, his voice when he said he loved her made me wamna say it back. He is so handsome, sheesh. I feel the feels too Rach, I feel em too.

Third hometown: Peter in Madison. Note: this was the first run into his arms! I see these two together. To me, Peter doesn't see this as a competition and never has. Oh bringing her to his spot! That's serious stuff. I love when you can tell that those are he's people, like that's how I get when I see my friends. Peter is letting his hair down and I'm seeing a different side of him. Peter keeps it SO REAL, props to him. I feel like a lot of them get so caught up in the show, but Peter is really thinking about what it could be out of this. He's adorable with his niece. Side bar: Rachel likes a lot of ice in her drink, has to be a Texas thing as my good friend does too. I feel like the biggest issue here with P&R is he won't propose. I feel like if she geniuely sees it then it doesn't matter if it happens at the end of the show or a month or two later.

Last hometown. Dean in Aspen. I've been looking forward to this date the most to be honest. Preach, Dean. Having a different relationship with a parent is something you don't get until it happens to you.  I feel really bad for him as he's walking up. He's just so embarrassed by his dad's life. Rachel is. Wing a sport to show Dean this isn't defining him. Side bar: is that girl's hair whiter than mine?! Dean's dad is still heartbroken over losing Dean's mom. I wish Dean didn't have to go through this on tv. I feel so bad for Dean. He didn't need to try to repair this relationship to build one with Rachel.

Rose Ceremony: oh boy...I was so sure who would be going home tonight at the beginning of this episode and now I'm not so sure. Bryan...check! Eric...check! Peter...check! I knew Dean would be sent home. But I thought for a second that it could happen. I know it has nothing to do with his  family, but I hope he understands that.

33 of my favorite things!

Today is my 33rd birthday...yikes that's weird to say, but it's the truth. I decided to do something different and fun for this year's blog post. I saw one of my fave bloggers Lauren ( do something like this for her bday a few weeks back. Since I love the "favorites game", I asked my 3 people who have known me the longest ; Jen, babytooth, and Aunt Chrissy (baby bestie was away being fabulous in Italy while I was putting it together) to ask me questions about my fave things. Things they may not even know about me. So keep reading if you want the answers to those questions as well as some never before seen pics (well at least I don't think I've shared them before.)

Jen's Questions

1. Favorite movie? The Santa Clause
2. Where would you live, if you could live anywhere? I think I really would pick Canada (hot guys & hockey aside) it seems like a nice place...
3. If you could only upgrade one room of your house, which would it be and what would you do? Oh this is a good question! I would say my room. I'd want to have a custom vanity with good lights for pics. Also, I'd give anything for someone to come in and clean my room.
4. What is your favorite thing about yourself? I think I'm a really good friend. I also love my sense of humor. I genuinely love when people laugh at things I say or do.
5. What is your favorite flower? Peonies or Hydrangeas
6. Who is your biggest hero? This is hard. It's hard to pick just one cause there's hero-like qualities in so many people in my life. Especially you, Jen. You are a SUPER WOMAN, doing it all & doing it so well!
7. What do you love to shop for? Anything beauty related.
8. What is your biggest guilty pleasure? The Disney Channel
9. You're in NYC, where would I find you hanging out? Hmmm, there's so many places I love. I love strolling down 5th, or hanging in Times Square, but hands down I'd have to go with MSG. For obvious reasons...#NYR
10. What is your best memory? This is the hardest question ever. I have so many!! I'll pick one with you that will always make me laugh...remember that time we were laying in my bed and you said "kay, you forgot to tape popstars!" and I said "oh shit!" like it was life for death and then we laughed until we cried? Oh you know what's another one I love? A little song I made up for you...which you're now're welcome.
11. You're favorite song of all time? know damn well I can't answer this. I'll give you some from my top 10; *nsync's for the girl who has everything (not the version from the album, the other one with Justin), whatchu like by dabrat featuring tyrese, there's nothing holdin' me back by shawn mendes (I know this is still new, but it puts me in the best mood), let me be by britney spears, let's take a ride by Jt...

babytooth aka Robin's Questions

12. What's your favorite donut flavor? I love strawberry frosted with sprinkles. Or chocolate frosted with sprinkles. Or boston cream. Ohh or maple.
13. Where's you favorite place to go when happy and when sad? my bed, haha! I feel like I do my best thinking there or sleeping if I'm sad.
14. What's your favorite childhood memory? I really have so many good ones. Here's some of my faves with you...playing b's. Or that time we played private eyes in the backyard with Jeffy. But I think my hands down fave childhood memory of all was when we went to Rookie & Rene's wedding all by ourselves. (In 1996, btooth (she was 8) and I (I was 12) went to a minor league baseball game alone for the mascots wedding!)
15. What's your favorite IG filter? Clarendon
16. What's your favorite place to eat out? Magnolia's or ihop
17. Favorite cocktail? champs!
18. Favorite make up product ( only ONE)? mascara, while I don't really have a fave anymore, it's the one thing product I couldn't live without.
19. Favorite thing about being blonde? I feel like blondes are a dime a dozen these days and I like being part of a secret club where we can have more fun!
20. Favorite quote? "What's for you, wont pass you" is the quote that's gotten me through some hard times and the one I live by. I also absolutely love this quote from the book The Bergdorf Blondes by Plum Skyes where the main character is describing her dream man; "I want someone smart and fun, who I can moan and whine at for hours and they'll still adore me" another quote I live by.
21. Favorite breakfast food? french toast!
22. Favorite time of day? night time, around 10/11.

Aunt Chrissy's Questions

23. Fave Movie Star? Denzel Washington & Rachel McAdams

bachelorette recap | week 6

Okay, Rach is hitting them hard with this week's rules. No rose ceremonies, 3 one on ones, and a group date!

One on One: with Bae-yan...I mean Bryan. He is hot af. I can't. I'm glad she's starting off the night right. His suit, damnnnnnnn. She said get ready and got ready he did! Honey, he would look good behind the wheel of a '94 Civic. HE IS JUST TOO HOT. They get in a Bentley and drive off to a watch store. Oh what a segue, to tell you quick about something I am working on! I've teamed up with JORD Wood Watches to share my vacation style. So stay tuned! Okay, back to the date. Did she pay for them really?? Or did ABC? That is a nice watch. I love a man in a watch.

Cut to Adam bitching. If I'm being honest, I had no clue he was on the show until last week...
Now Dean is talking some shit. EXCUSE ME? You are a manboy, sit down young man.

Cut to the date. I feel like Bryan may be a sweet talker, but I genuinely do see that he's into her. It would be a plot twist if he rips her heart apart in the end. Maybe that's just me wanting to push my way in there. What are your thoughts on Bryan? He seems to be like Jordan on JoJo's season...who I loved! And they are still going so strong.

One on One: with Dean. I feel like Dean and Rachel haven't been together in a bit. Their last one on one was really cute and I could see it happening, but since then they've fizzled a little. Let's see how this goes. I like his Sunday best. I feel like Dean is on edge and it's making their date awkward. Last time wasn't like this. I feel bad that he has family drama. She's forcing him to talk, except he can't get serious. I think he needs to man up and put it out there. There's the manboy I speaking of earlier. Bryan may be too much, Dean isn't enough. 2nd part of their date is just as awkward as the beginning. He is having a hard time being vulnerable, but he should understand she gets it, she went through this. I'm surprised he got a rose cause it was so difficult to watch the first part of this date. She's right tho, she isn't looking for a new family, she's looking for an extension of her partner.

One on One: with Peter. So far I'm 3 for 3 in my picks for top 4, just an FYI ;) Okay, I'm calling it 2 is Bryan and Peter. AWE DOGSSSSSS! Yayyyyyyyy. I hope they aren't mistreated. I'd be too busy talking to the dogs to pay attention to the mountains or my date.

Cut to the guys bitching again. Eric I think will round out the top 4. Idk who this other bad hair guy is. I know I talked about him before and to be honest, idk how he's still around.

Back to the freezing date. I like that Peter is being honest with her. There's probably nothing worse than watching the show back and seeing your potential partner talking about how they want to leave. This process isn't for the weak. Peter isn't my cup of tea, but Rachel seems to be digging him hardcore. This date is kinda boring. I get that Peter had to share with Rach his past, she can't worry about him proposing yet. I think she needs to meet his family first.

Three on One: with Adam, Eric, and Matt-bad hair guy. That date card was awful. Setting up the drama. Those guys thinking Peter was going home are nuts. It's a fight to the death dudes, man up. Adam thinks his relationship is stronger than anybody else? Huh? Did I miss an episode where he was the star? How many guys does it take to help one lady into a boat? Adam please stop talking. He is on a different show right now cause he acts like Rachel is "oh Adammmm, save me from these lugs." And that is NOT the case.

She pulls Eric aside first. Eric has grown a lot this season. He went from bitching and moaning every second to being lowkey and more about Rachel. Eric has a point, life is hard. I like their time they spent together.

How is Matt-bad hair guy still around? I swear he just showed up week 4 and then I thought he was gone week 5. He isn't getting the rose. Poor guy should've been let go weeks ago. He's probably very nice, I just don't see them working or on the same playing field as a Peter or a Bryan (man, I wish he was on the screen.) She's basically telling him "if we met on, it'd totally work, but we met on national TV and I really don't know you."

Adam is still left because he believes this isn't difficult and knows he's the one for her. *major eye roll* I really can't even remember them having any alone time until the viking date. HE DIDN'T EVEN HAVE ALONE TIME IN PART ONE OF THE DATE. Ayi ayi ayi. "A whole new light to your eye" that doesn't even make sense. Please send this bag of rocks home...when Adam says this could've all went different if she went to his hometown, isn't a positive statement. You need her to fall for you first and then fall in love with you family.

And we're headed home, kids! Top 4; Eric, Dean, Peter, and Bryan.

Woah next week looks like a doozy.
I am going to try to have my recap up like normal next Tuesday, but I'll be away on vacation, so hopefully I can make it happen! Let's discuss this week's episode, xo!

All it’ll take is a bit of computer hacking, a few fake invitations, some eager rushees…and Sam will get her revenge.
Let the games begin.

I was scrolling through top free reads in iBooks and The Society popped up. Now I'll be the first to admit, I'm a sucker for a cover. I liked this one and the summary sounded good, so I picked it up. I'm a big "get it while it's free and don't read it for months" type of shopper, but I've been a slight slump so I started this one. I liked the idea of this book a lot, a secret society, a heroine who hasn't had a great go and is going to mess with her enemy, sounded like the perfect read. And I hate to say, but it wasn't a fully developed story. There were parts were I'd think "yes, this is gonna be good" and then it just kinda fell flat. The story was too short. Everything needs up being resolved in the end, but I wanted more. The idea, characters, and twists were there, but it needed just a little more grit. I read it in a night cause I just kept waiting for the next big thing to happen. 3 stars for The Society, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

"Heartfelt and entertaining, with characters so vivid, you'll forget they're fictional. Readers will find themselves cheering for Veronica Buccino." -- Claire Ashby, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of the novel, When You Make it Home

Veronica Buccino has a plan: marry John DelMonico and quit her soul-sucking job as a lawyer. And when he tells her he has big news, she’s certain he’ll pop the question. But instead of proposing, John informs her that he’s moving to London.

Heartbroken, Veronica feels lost. Salvatore and Antoinette, her dead grandparents, begin to visit her dreams in an attempt to steer her in the right direction. At their suggestion, Veronica takes a news reporting class, which leads to a challenging freelance assignment covering a conspiracy trial. She also begins dating an unlikely suitor: creative Syd Blackman.

Just when her love life and career are looking up, Veronica is tossed back to square one by an event that makes her question all her new choices.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Better in the Morning isn't your run of the mill chick lit read. It has a bunch of laugh out loud moments, well developed characters, and tons of moments where you'll be rooting for the main character Veronica, but it all feels more. The author does a great job of writing a story you can see. I love when books have supporting casts that are just as important as the main character and this story doesn't disappoint. I love the moments in her dreams with her grandparents! This 4.5 star book is the perfect weekend read! Put Fern Ronay on your author read list cause you'll be hooked on her writing voice, xo!
