Beauty Matchup | Tarte vs GlamGlow

GlamGlow vs. Tarte

I have to admit I didn’t know either of these products existed before I was sent the GlamGlow Highlighting Moisturizer in my March Play! by Sephora (which I always call Sephora Play-whoops!). But this was right up my alley, so I was super excited to test it out. I grabbed the Tarte Brighter Days Highlighting Moisturizer as my 100 point perk at Sephora and decided these two should battle it out!

What they claim:
GlamGlow Glowstarter Mega Illuminating Moisturizer full size 1.7 oz/50mL  $49 3 different shades; pearl glow, nude glow, sun glow says it’s “a hydrating, super-charged cream with iridescent illuminating pearl particles to blur, reflect, and enhance your complexion for an instant luminous finish.”

Tarte Brighter Days Highlighting Moisturizer full size 1.69oz/50 mL $32 says it’s “an oil-free, daily highlighting moisturizer that illuminates and hydrates skin.”

What I think:
After using these both a bunch of times, I’ve decided that they could be siblings and not twins. Hear me out, I know you just read that and said “Kayla, they are both illuminizing moisturizers. How different can they be?” For starters, let’s start with the smell shall we? The Tarte one has no smell, but the GlamGlow smells like a creamsicle and what dreams are made of. Seriously, I don’t like smelly stuff of my face, but I want this on my face All. The. Time. It just smells that good! Now let’s move to consistency, while they both are pretty similar in thickness and how they spread on the skin, I have to say that the for Tarte one a little goes a long way! While I appreciate that my GlamGlow has a nude tint to it, it doesn’t add any real color to the skin. I do wear just this to my skating lessons each week to trick my “up before 8am on a Saturday” brain into thinking I’m getting some coverage (reality is, I’m not.) So what’s my overall consensus? Either of these are going to last all day under your foundation and give you a dewy finish! If you like that glow like I do, then you can’t go wrong with either of these! Seriously, even without a highlight or a dewy foundation, you’ll be glowing from within. The price difference is a little much for being the same size, but with GlamGlow you can pick the tint to the product and with Tarte it squeezes out which I like better than dipping into. So this battle is a draw for me!*

*I wanted to mention that we all know I adore the L’Oreal Lumi Primer, but this doesn’t compare to these as far as overall benefits to the skin. I would much rather use an illuminizing moisturizer than a primer just cause it kills two birds with one stone….#lazygirl

Have you tried either of these? If so, let me know what you think in the comments below, xo!

Newsletter | April

I wrote and set up a newsletter with MailChimp, but after spending close to 3 hours and not being any closer to figuring it out...I decided to post it here! If you want to sign up for my newsletter which hopefully will go out as an actual emailed newsletter next month, let me know in the comments! it is, xo!

Hey dolls!

I feel like I’m slipping into your DMs, but really it’s me slippin’ into your inbox! I’ve been wanting to dip my foot into the newsletter pool for a while, but kept reading articles about how newsletters are on their way out. Which maybe they are, but hey, why not give it a try, right?

My newsletter will be monthly and will include my fave products of the moment, random ass stories and thoughts, and anything else I decide to write about. So without further ado, let’s get into it!

Faves RN
  • ·         I’m totally feeling nude nails still-this week I’m rocking Zoya in Portia which is a nude-ish soft mauve and is too die.
  • ·         Dunkin Donut’s Coconut Cream Pie iced coffee with a splash of skim. UGH, this is the If you like coconut do yourself a favor and pick this up!
  • ·         I’ve been binging SO MUCH Beauty Break on Clevver Style ( Lily and Jocelyn (and the occasionally episode with Meghan) make me laugh so hard. I feel like I would love to guest star on it one day…hint hint to the 9 of you that will read this, tweet @lily_marston and let her know I’d be great on BB.
  • ·         I don’t have a current fave book…well that’s a lie. I do, but it won’t be out until September ;) I’m currently reading Solitaire by Alice Oseman and so far so good…I’m only on page 10, so don’t take my word for it just yet.
  • ·         The Amazing Race is back and I’m loving this season. The idea of being partnered up with a complete stranger to race around the world is pretty crazy tho. I feel like I would have to be pretty straight forward with the person and explain that you don’t get between me and money. ESPECIALLY a million dollars.
·         Oh crap, I forgot, my most favorite thing of all of the favorites…p&b is now a .com. Yup, that’s right. You can find me, any, and all things polished & bubbly at :)

Random Ramblings
April means lots of things…like what you ask? It’s my childhood bestie’s bday (Happy 33rd, Jenpup413!), Easter, a special brunch, a baby shower for Jenpup’s little girl (yay, finally a girl), and most importantly, it’s the playoffs. If you know me personally or follow me on any of my social meads, then you know that the New York Rangers are one of my most favorite things ever. If you asked me when my obsession (borderline unhealthy obsession) with NYR began, I’d take you back to the 90s. I remember being a little girl and watching hockey games on my small tv in my room when the puck had a laser in it so you could see it at all times. I remember begging (not hard at all) for my Grandpa to play Blades of Steel with me on the Nintendo for hours on end. I would ALWAYS be the Red & Blue team from New York (they didn’t have specific team names, but duh that was the Rangers!) I could name my favorite players and tell you what position they played. I was a girl obsessed. Cut to 2017, and I still feel like that little girl sometimes. There is nothing I love more than sitting down in a Rangers tee with my dad on the couch watching the Blueshirts take the ice. This time of year, I’m completely superstitious so I will wear my complete outfit if they win or move on to something else if they don’t, I’ll sit in the same spot each game-well I start out sitting and then I end up standing (especially in the later rounds), and I will barely answer my texts during the game. I just love the idea of being a part of something bigger than me and that’s what being a sports fan is! #LGR

So there we have it kids, my first newsletter! Let me know what you thought by tweeting me, commenting on IG, Facebook, or drop me an email. Also if you have any questions for me the girl behind polished & bubbly, don’t be shy ;)

This or That?

I wanted to start something a little new on p&b so I'll be doing a monthly this or that! Give your answers below or put it on your blog and leave your link so I can stalk you out ;)

  • Coffee or Tea? Hmm, this is a tough cause it totally depends on the day. But I'll go with coffee...iced to be exact.
  • Shower or Bath? Shower. I do love a good bath, but I like a nice long shower so I can put on a whole concert.
  • Morning or Night? Night! I am a night owl through and through.
  • Natural or Glam? Glam. I am natural most of the time, but I love me some glam.
  • CoverGirl or Maybelline? This is another toughy, I think Maybelline. I have a lot more Maybelline then CoverGirl.
  • Chipotle or Taco Bell? Either or. I love both for different reasons!
  • Hot or Iced tea? I love a good glass of iced tea.
  • Mascara or Eyeliner? Mascara all day, errday.
  • Bieber or Timberlake? Ha. Is this even a real question? Timberlake since '98.

Spring Negative Space Mani

I love to mix up my seasonal manis. I just got 'Backseat Besties' from Essie's spring collection and it's the perfect spring pink to test out a new mani.

Products Used
Essie in 'Backseat Besties'
Essie Gel Couture top coat
binder stickers

After you prep your nails however you like (I file and buff mine and then wash my hands, nails, and cuticles) block off the sections on each nail. I like to do my dominant hand first so I know if all the looks will work using my non-dominant hand. I opted to do a french tip on the thumb with a small half circle near the cuticle, half moon on the pointer, diagonal on the middle finger, full nail on the ring, and french on the pinkie. The thing I love most about negative space manis is you can do all your nails the same or opt for a different look for each finger like I did.

What's your fave spring polish? Let me know in the comments and be sure to use the hashtag #polishedandbubblymani if you recreate, xo!

March Faves!

Woah, how did this happen? We're already in April and it's Spring! I don't know about you, but I'm pretty pumped :) Let's talk about my fave things in March, shall we?

I've been on a Colleen Hoover kick. So my two faves for March are Hopeless-my review here and Slammed-my review here. I highly recommend both of these 5 star novels.

Movies, I actually went to the movies 3 times in March-Beauty & the Beast, Fifty Shades Darker, and The Tomorrow Paradox-which was hands down my favorite. The movie is extremely smart and thought provoking. It also holds a spot near to me because my brilliant cousin Mikey co-wrote and co-produced it. Give them a follow on Facebook to see when it will hit your city or NetFlix!

These sneakers from Charlotte Russe are my new obsession! I haven't had them long, but I love them!

This Express distressed sweater is another of one my staples. It's just heavy enough and the little holes keep it trendy. I've worn it 100 times and don't have a pic to share with you...same old Kayla ;)

What's your March faves? Let me know down below, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Hopeless and Losing Hope.

Falling in love can feel like poetry. Or it can feel like a slam to the heart.

Colleen Hoover’s romantic, emotion-packed debut novel unforgettably captures all the magic and confusion of first love, as two young people forge an unlikely bond before discovering that fate has other plans for them.

Following the unexpected death of her father, eighteen-year-old Layken becomes the rock for both her mother and younger brother. She appears resilient and tenacious, but inside, she's losing hope. Then she meets her new neighbor Will, a handsome twenty-one-year-old whose mere presence leaves her flustered and whose passion for poetry slams thrills her.

Not long after a heart-stopping first date during which each recognizes something profound and familiar in the other, they are slammed to the core when a shocking discovery brings their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together and the forces that tear them apart. Only through the poetry they share are they able to speak the truth that is in their hearts and imagine a future where love is cause for celebration, not regret.

I could read Colleen Hoover all day every day. She can WRITE. If you want to feel every emotion, pick up one of her books. I read Slammed after Hopeless and loved it so much. Slammed has a story line that if you've been around p&b for a while you know it's one of my faves to read. I don't ever give things away, so I won't do that here, but it's a good plot twist! You don't need to be fan of poetry to let each one of these poems touch your heart. Layken is a lead you want to see come out of her darkness, she feels so real. Will is a male lead that you want to be your boyfriend and not because he's handsome, but because you can tell he wants to make you better. The roller coaster ride that is Slammed will keep you turning the pages late into the night. If you haven't read anything by Colleen yet, do yourself a favor and pick up Slammed...then clear your schedule, cause you will need to read all of her books, xo!
