Beauty | No Makeup Vs. Makeup

I have been seeing this challenge around everywhere on the internet, so I figured I'd give it a whirl. It was fun to see the difference between both sides and I'll definitely give this a whirl again. All of the pictures have no filter at all so you can see the difference in my skin. Let me know what you think of this no makeup vs. makeup look, xo!

#3 | book in review!

Brief Summary:

Sloan will go through hell and back for those she loves. And she does, every single day. After finding herself stuck in a relationship with the dangerous and morally corrupt Asa Jackson, Sloan will do whatever it takes to get by until she's able to find a way out. Nothing will get in her way. Nothing except Carter. Sloan is the best thing to ever happen to Asa. And if you ask Asa, he'd say he's the best thing to ever happen to Sloan. Despite Sloan's disapproval of Asa's sinister lifestyle, he does exactly what he needs to do in order to stay a step ahead in his business. He also does exactly what he needs to do in order to stay a step ahead of Sloan. Nothing will get in his way. Nothing except Carter. Recommended for readers 18+ due to scenes of graphic violence, including rape, murder and other sensitive issues.

Review:

Ohhhh, Colleen Hoover, you can write! This book is gripping, captivating, and will have you sucked right in. Sloan has definitely had her fair share of downs, her roller coaster ride is actually one drop down after the other. But you will need to know what happens to her, Asa, and Carter. Carter is the perfect mix to get this story to the next level. My only compliant is that the epilogue is longggggg. I read Too Late in a day, but found myself up pretty late because the epilogue just kept on going. I recommend this 5 star book to anyone who loves dark, twisted, edge of your seat type stories, xo!

To purchase:

At the posting of this review, I've currently read 11 books in 2017. Goal: 11 out of 52!

Series | Feature Friday!

Dolls, our special guest just announced that she is expecting her first baby and I couldn't be more happy for Whitney and her husband! Whitney's IG brightens my day and we have so much in common, from our love of makeup to our love for a certain rom-com geinus Aven Ellis! One of the first times I commented on Whit's IG was to ask her what she thought of Kayla Paine the villian cause I couldn't wait to tell her that was me :) Anyway enough of me, here's the mommy to be, xo!

I'm 27, Aries, and have been married for 5 years. I met my hubby in college about 10 years ago!!! Also, we are expecting our first child in August!!
I love reading, playing with makeup, online shopping, and spending time with my husband Austin and my Weimaraner, Lucy.
I have dual bachelor's degrees in English Literature (with a concentration in British Lit) and Spanish. I'm currently a Library Assistant at my local library but have plans to receive my Master's in Library Science in the very near future so I can be an official Librarian. :)

p&b-

what made you start a blog?
I wanted an outlet to share my love of books and reading.
p&b-who or what inspires you?
My family inspires me. I want to inspire a love of reading in those who don’t like to read. I want everyone to see how wonderful and beautiful the world of books is.

p&b-
favorite author?
Oh this is a tough one! Currently, I’m obsessed with Colleen Hoover, but I also love Aven Ellis, A.G. Howard, Kate White, and Megan Shepherd.

p&b-
favorite book or series of all time?
Man, another tough one! I’ll have to say that The Fault in Our Stars, All the Light We Cannot See, A Man Called Ove, and Between Shades of Gray are my favorites as of now!

p&b-you run a website based on books and reviews-why did you decide to base your blog around this?
I have always enjoyed reading and if I enjoy a book, I love to talk about it. I also enjoy writing, so WordsWisdomWhitney was born.

p&b-
what's the best part of running a book blog?
The best part of running a book blog is the fact that I can get complimentary books from authors or publishers for review! It’s awesome. I also love the joy of connecting with others over books!

p&b-
now that it's 2017, do you make resolutions? if so, what are they?
I don’t usually make resolutions at the start of the New Year, but occasionally if I want to set a goal throughout the year I’ll do that. My goals so far are to spend less, use what I have, and read at least a couple books that have been on my TBR for ages.

p&b-must have product?
Mascara (Maybelline Lash Sensational is my go-to!!) or lip balm/gloss (I love EOS balms and the LancĂ´me Juicy Shakers because they are easy and hydrating.)

p&b-
fave beauty trend?
Definitely highlighting!!! I love trying new highlighters. My current fave is using a damp sponge to apply BeccaxJaclynHill Champagne Pop!

p&b-
best advice you've ever received?
When I was younger my dad always encouraged learning and the value of education. He told me even if someone were to take away all of your possessions and belongings, they can’t take your education from you. I strive to read and learn something new every day because knowledge is power!

p&b-
if you could collab with any brand, who would it and what would the collab feature?
Probably Too Faced because they have the CUTEST    products. I would love to do a warm-toned eyeshadow palette scented with a  coconut/beachy scent!

p&b-if you could switch lives with any celebrity, who would it be?
Probably Taylor Swift because I love her fashion sense and she just seems so fun!

Beauty Review | December Sephora Play

December's theme was "I take the party with me" and I think they hit the nail on the head! From a primer, to a setting spray, to a dry shampoo to make sure you look like you didn't stay up dancing all night long, here's what I thought of each product!

Elizabeth and James Nirvana Rose this smells so pretty and to me is the perfect winter to spring transition smell.

Urban Decay All Nighter setting spray I've tried this before and I really like it! I love getting sample sizes of setting sprays cause they are perfect for travel.

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara obsessed with this formula! I will need to pick up the full size ASAP. This mascara adds lots of volume and length.

Makeup Forever Step 1 Primer I really like this primer. It actually has a tint to it and I feel like it really helps even out my skin before I apply my foundation. Bonus, they have a matte, radiant, and natural finish formula!

The Dry Bar Detox Dry Shampoo this was my most disappointing product. I don't know if it was the bottle of dry shampoo that I got, but this left an orangey tint in my hair. The smell wasn't bad, but I wasn't able to really test out this product like I wanted to.

I'll be back in a few weeks with January's Sephora Play review, so stay tuned! Do you subscribe to any monthly subscriptions? Let me know in the comments, xo!

#ootd | bundle up, baby!

In all seriousness, we've had a pretty mild winter. Yes, in the Northeast where I call home, we've had a few spells of down right frigid weather, but all & all it hasn't been too bad! A few weeks ago, babytooth and I had a photo shoot day planned (she runs the most amazing fitness IG | @rippedrobin go check her out!) Of course that day it was FREEZING and it snowed the whole time, but it gave me a chance to put together this #ootd for you! Stay warm, babes, xo!

#2 | a book in review!

Brief Summary:

He’s not perfect, but he’s all I want…

I’m your average girl at your average high school, trying to figure out my place in life. After catching my now ex-boyfriend messing around with my now ex-best friend, I’ve made some big changes. No more band, no more backstabbing friends and no more boring old life. Now I have new friends, a new job and new interests.

But there’s a certain someone who’s interested in me, and I don’t get it. Jordan Tuttle could have anyone he wants. He’s the most popular boy in school. Rich, gorgeous, smart and the star quarterback, he’s perfect. Yet he acts like he wants no one else but…me. So despite my fears and doubt, I let him get close. Probably too close. I discover that he’s not so perfect after all, but it doesn’t matter. I’m falling for him, even though he runs so hot and cold. I know someday he’s going to break my heart.

And I’m going to let him.

Review:

I was a little surprised when I saw that Just Friends was part of a series (which I didn't know until I got to the end...), so I jumped on bn.com and picked up More Than Friends. I read these both in the span of 2 days and in hindsight I don't think I should have read them back to back like that. I think that the story lines are very similar and it was hard to not think "wait, didn't we go through this already?" That being said, I enjoyed Amanda and Jordan's story. Amanda and Jordan are like Romeo and Juliet in that they come from completely different backgrounds and you are just rooting to see if they can make it work! I recommend this 3 star book if you're in the mood lots of drama, xo!

Series | Feature Friday!

Back with the feature Fridays and I have the next few weeks all lined up. So sit back and get ready to meet some more of my fave people of the internet! Today we have my gorgeous and sweetest friend, Emma! Check out her blog after you get to know her, xo!

I'm 27 but still pretending I'm 23. I live with my boyfriend and our Frenchie Basil. I have 5 brothers and growing up being the only girl taught me a lot about the other sex and exactly how to get them to see things your way. I'm a chocoholic and a bit of foodie. I love to eat but only enjoy cooking when I have a lot of time. I've always been a girly girl who loves make up and nails but I'm not the best at either lol. I've been a book blogger for 3 years now and it's hands down the best decision I ever made.

p&b-what made you start a blog?

I was actually reading I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk and the main character started a blog. I was so interested in it I wanted to start one.

p&b-who or what inspires you?

ooo this is a toughie. Lots of things inspire me. My favourite authors are a huge influence on me and I would say my boyfriend too.

p&b-favorite author?

Really just one? I can't pick one but my top authors are Aven Ellis, Holly Martin, Lindsey Kelk, Paige Toon and Karen Swan but there are sooo many others.

p&b-favorite book or series of all time?

Oh man! You are mean. I think I have to pick Christmas at Tiffany's by Karen Swan. I adore this book because the locations are amazing and so well described. The story is also very inspiring.

p&b-you run a website based on books and reviews & even run internet book tours-why did you decide to base your blog around this?

I have read books since I was a little girl. I was the girl that had a torch and hid under her duvet with a book long after I should have been sleeping. When I decided I wanted to start a blog it was an obvious choice really.

p&b-what's the best part of running a book blog?

Connecting with authors and when someone tells you that they have purchased a book because of your review. That's the icing on the cake really.

p&b-you're hanging out with your girlfriends, are you staying in or going out-what's your girls' night look like?

Haha we are so terrible at girls nights. We have the best intentions but somehow the boys always appear. The last girls night we had was when I was living on my own and I had all the girls round for food, makeovers etc. it was a real old school slumber party. We even watched Clueless.

p&b-must have product?

ooo recently I have become addicted to Benefit make up and I absolutely LOVE their Boing concealer.

p&b-best advice you've ever received?

It was actually from our Momma, Aven Ellis. I was going through some tough times with my ex and trying to decide if the relationship should continue or not and it may seem like simple advice but at the time it was exactly what I needed. She told me to look after me. Don't worry about the rest of the world and what everyone else will think about my decision just make the decision that was best for me and at a time when you have everyone trying to give you their opinion it was the best advice and I thank Aven from the bottom of my heart for being their for me through that.

p&b-where do you see yourself in 5 years?

This one is difficult. I tend to be one of those people that takes each day as it comes. I don't tend to look forward too much. I'd like to have children at some point and get married but I've never been one of those people that needs to rush at it. It will happen when it happens.

p&b-favorite food?

Chocolate. Hands down.

p&b-if you could switch lives with any celebrity, who would it be?

hmmm I'm not really one for the celebrity lifestyle. It would be great to not need to worry about the money but I would hate everyone knowing all my business. So it would have to be someone who's good at keeping their private life private.

Beauty Review | Best of beautycounter

At Beautycounter, we’re committed to a health and safety standard that goes well beyond what’s required by U.S. law: We’ve banned the use of more than 1,500 questionable or harmful chemicals through our "Never List”—all while ensuring our products perform and that they’re as indulgent as any other luxe shampoo, lipstick, or oil in the market.

My new sweet internet friend, Mandy reached out to me to see if I'd be interested in trying some of beautycounter's best products. I've tried the line in the past, but it's been a few years, so I figured why not give it another whirl. After a few messages back and forth where Mandy asked me about my skin and what I'd like to get out of trying a new product, she knew exactly which best sellers to send my way. I suffer from SUPER dry skin and I'm not just talking on my face, I'm talking everywhere.

Here are the products I couldn't wait to tell you about!

The most surprising product to me was the lip conditioner. I was so surprised how much I loved this. Between the smell and the way it lathers on my lips and lasts while I sleep, this is a lip product lover's must have!

The day cream kept my face feeling nice all day. It didn't matter if I had makeup on or not. The smell wasn't over powering at all which you know can be an issue for me, but the beautycounter products have a clean scent.

I was so impressed with the cream blusher! I'm not one to reach for a cream blush, but this one was easy to blend and gave such a good, rosy color to my cheeks. I liked how buildable it was. The color it left behind was very natural and not over pink at all.

The body butter was the perfect cream to help my dry winter hands. I was reaching for it the second I was done washing my hands. Same clean scent as the day cream so it was nice to not have a bunch of different scents on at the same time. If you have dry skin, pick this up!

After checking out the website and seeing just how many products the beautycounter line has, I definitely want to test out the Lustro Shimmer Oil

Mandy & I have a teamed up to bring you a $25 store credit so you can get your hands on safe beauty products. All you have to do is head over to Instagram and like the giveaway picture and be sure to be following me & Mandy! Simple as that and you are entered :)

Quick Quiz

Who doesn't love a quiz? And I'm not talking like a chemistry pop quiz, I'm talking about a cute little flow chart that will help you pick out which breed of dog fits your personality.

So whatcha get? I got group 3, which I don't think fits me all that well. I love all dogs, but I'm a small dog kinda girl. As you know I have a Pomeranian and I just love that she needs me to hold her at all times. But taking a little fun quiz in the middle of the day is a good way to pass the time and be sure to check out all the cute pups for sale at PuppySpot.

At PuppySpot, we are a community of dog lovers, committed to connecting responsible breeders with caring individuals and families. We hold ourselves and our clients to the highest standards and aim to improve the life of each puppy, breeder and owner who joins our family. PuppySpot has a zero tolerance policy for puppy mills or substandard breeding practices of any kind. While you may not know the source of your puppy from a rescue, shelter or pet store, you will always know where your PuppySpot puppy was born and raised. PuppySpot puppies are raised with love, respect and a high level of attention and personal care.

#1 | a book in review!

I have a goal to read 52 books this year (aka 1 a week!) I'm off to a good start with reading 5 the first week already! Going forward I'm going to number my reviews so you can follow along and I can keep myself accountable. Let's get into it, xo!

Brief Summary:

It’s the end of summer. Just before I start senior year with my two best friends in the whole world. Dustin and Emily are everything to me. We’ve been inseparable since middle school, and when we’re together, nothing can go wrong.

But things aren’t always what they seem. Em’s turned into a drunken mess who parties too much. Dustin and I have hooked up a few times―and now he’s ready to take our relationship to the next level. Yet I’m not sure I want things to change. I’m scared if I take it any further with Dustin, our friendship will be ruined forever. Then there’s Ryan. The new guy. He’s hot. He flirts way too much. And Em has totally set her sights on him.

So when my best friend betrays me in the worst possible way, guess who’s there to help me pick up the pieces of my broken heart? Ryan. But he’s so confusing. Annoying. Sweet. Sexy. I want to trust him, yet he makes it so hard. What I really want is for everything to go back to the way it was before.

Before I found out that best friends make the worst kind of enemies.

Review:

My friend Krissy posted this book as one of her faves from 2016 and judging off the cover (yep, I do that sometimes, too) I knew I would like it. This book takes you back to HS and all of the questions come right back. "Does he like? Why do I like him? Wait, I like him too? How can my friends turn on me and cause so much drama?" This book is a bumpy ride, but well worth the journey! I was surprised when I reached the end and saw it had a sequel (that review will be up next week). I recommend this 4 star book to anyone who loves HS drama with love, laughs, and lots of ups & downs in between, xo!

2106 Faves | Books

New series alert! For the next 4 Wednesdays, I'll be bringing you my faves from 2016. Of course we are stating off with the most important..sooooo let's dive right into my book faves for 2016!

My hands down favorite book of 2016 was The Force of Gravity by Kelly Stevenson. I read it in one sitting in 5 hours and 40 minutes to be exact. And then I read it 2 more times...in 2016. My review is here cause I could go on for hours, so just read this and pick it up cause book 2 is coming in 2017 (I believe..)

My next fave book of 2016 was Trivial Pursuits by Aven Ellis. This is my favorite rom com and it's not just because I make a cameo as the villain, but because Livy & Landon are major goals. My review is here!

Another fave read I had this year was Pretty Girls by Karen Slaughter. This book is haunting and you will NOT be able to put it down. This is the definition of a page turner. My review is here.

My favorite series of 2016 was The Royals by Erin Watt. It's a series that sucks you right in. Be thankful that they are all out now and you don't have to wait to see what happens to Reed and Ella like the rest of the world did. My reviews Paper Princess, Broken Prince, Twisted Palace

My last fave book of 2016 was All the Rage by Courtney Summers. I can't remember how I stumbled across this book, it could've been a must read list or maybe a "banned books list" (what can I say, I live a thug life) But I'm SO glad I picked it up. After I finished it, I went on to read 2 more books that same week by Courtney. Her writing style is absolutely captivating and you can read my review here.

What were your fave books of 2016? Let me know in the comments so I can enjoy them too, xo!

Life Series | 2 0 1 7 goals

Weeeelllll, it's 2017. I honestly can't believe it's already a new year. But with a new year means new goals to lay out. I thought about these for a while and I want to really make them obtainable. I don't want to do resolutions anymore cause I never keep those, so let's go with these goals...

I want to get back into my blogging schedule and having everything (that I can) done a week in advance. It makes everything a lot easier and I'm not scrambling at 11:45 the night before something has to be up.

Going off of that, I won't feel bad when I have mini hiatuses. Cause unfortunately, they are inevitable. But when I do have one, I will come back with great content.

Speaking of content, I will only put out things I truly believe in. So that means anyone who is thinking of emailing me so they can fill a quota of so many blog posts for their product or company, move along. I don't want to "maybe be featured" anymore.

Which brings me to my outlook for 2017...this will be the year of No. Hear me out. I came up with this idea at the middle of November when I was suckered into doing something I really actually didn't want to do. I won't get into details on what it was cause that's not important, but I don't want to be a "yes" person anymore. My time is valuable and probably holds the most value. I don't want to have to talk myself into doing things that I really would rather not do. After I presented this idea to my friends, they all understood exactly what I meant. And it started popping up on magazine covers too...so I'm clearly on to something.

I like to joke that everyone should think of this emoji when they think of me.

What are your goals for 2017? Let me know in the comments, xo!

*ps-thank you for your ongoing love and support. 2017 is going to be a lot of fun around here and my horoscope for the year says "this will be the year I look back and say it all changed." so stay tuned :)

a book in review!

Brief Summary

Sugar and Ice is the first full-length novel in the Rinkside in the Rockies Series by Aven Ellis!
Josephine Rossi has recovered from a broken heart, but has vowed that she's all about the desserts now as a recipe tester for Bake It! Magazine. Cheesecake never breaks your heart. Unless it cracks on the top, but still, it tastes amazing if you bake it just right. She knows what to do in the kitchen as far as making luscious desserts. Men? Apparently she's not so good at figuring them out, so she refuses to bother. Josephine knows it is safer to stay in the kitchen than to take another chance with her heart.
Denver Mountain Lions forward Cade Callahan is passionate about hockey, but is also about finding love. He thought he had it once, but a disastrous romance last holiday season has him keeping his heart in check. While he’s fearless on the ice, he’s guarded with his heart. Cade is determined history won’t repeat itself again. He won’t let his guard down until he’s certain he’s met The One.
However, Cupid's arrow might just strike when these two least expect it. When an oven goes out, and a cheesecake for testing has to be baked, and Cade just happens to live in the same building with a working oven...Well, things other than cheesecake might just heat up in the kitchen. Can these two passionate people learn to trust their hearts again? Can love override fear for Josephine and Cade? And will they find the combination of sugar and ice is the sweetest one of all?

Review

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Sweet, delicious, satisfying are all words to describe the sweet treats JoJo cooks up in Sugar and Ice, but also are words to describe the male lead Cade. This story has everything a romcom needs; laughs, a little heartache, and a TON of yumminess along the way. I highly recommend you have your fave treat on hand when reading Sugar and Ice, otherwise you'll be craving something sweet until you can put the book down. Which it's an Aven Ellis novel, so let's be serious, you won't be able to put it down. I really loved being about to catch up with Sierra and Jude in this story as well-you'll remember them from Hold the Lift. Aven gets another hat trick with this one, pick it up, I promise you won't be disappointed with this 5 star book, xo!

To Purchase
Keep up with Aven
