July Faves!

Wow, okay can Summer just slow the eff down? I can't believe it's the last week of July. I honestly feel like yesterday was June, but nope time's flying by. So here they are my July favorites!

Beauty

L'Oreal Pro-Glow Foundation-you had to know this would be a favorite. It's been the only thing I've been using since I got it. If you have dry skin and haven't tried it yet, do yourself a favor and head out to get it now.

Benefit They're Real-this is an oldie, but a goodie! I have recently been using this just to give my lashes a little extra attention.

Tori LaLa True Matte Lippie in 'Cheeky'-this is a beautiful dusty rose color that's just everything. The formula lasts ALL DAY LONG. Let it dry and it stays on while you eat and drink-a must if you are a serial lip over liner like me.

Essie Gel Couture in 'Signature Smile'-while I haven't worn this one myself yet, I did my Aunt's toenails in it and it's absolutely gorgeous. We tested it without a top coat while going to the beach and she had minimal chippage. Highly recommend this new line from my fave nail company. Check out all the colors here.

Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Pop-okay, it's no surprise that a beauty blogger has this on their list, but it's just stunning. I put some on babytooth while we were on vaca and were heading out for my Birthday dinner and she was obsessed. It's just the perfect finishing touch.

Eyebrow Threading-I let my brows grow in for about 8 weeks and got them threaded right before I left town. It's safe to say, I'm OBSESSED with my brows again and will go back to getting them threaded every 6 weeks or so.

Randoms

Book-this was really tough cause I read some great books in July, but I'll go with a tie between 'Pretty Girls' & 'Never Never'

Song-Make Me by Britney Spears ft G-Eazy; did you really expect something else?

Thing-Fujifilm Instamax in Rose;which was a surprise birthday gift from babytooth and I am madly in love with it. It's the cutest camera and the best blogger accessory!

Blogger-I have two faves who have been my faves for a while now and both are named Lauren! Lauren of Vandifair who has the cutest style and her IG is #majorgoals and Lauren of Lauren's List who is always my nail inspiration

What are your July faves? Let me know in the comments, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

Lee Child says it’s “stunning… certain to be a book of the year.”

Kathy Reichs calls it “extraordinary… a major achievement.”
Jeffery Deaver says that “fiction doesn't get any better than this.”

Gillian Flynn says of Karin Slaughter: “I’d follow her anywhere.”

See for yourself what these #1 New York Times-bestselling authors are talking about.

Sisters. Strangers. Survivors.

More than twenty years ago, Claire and Lydia’s teenaged sister Julia vanished without a trace. The two women have not spoken since, and now their lives could not be more different. Claire is the glamorous trophy wife of an Atlanta millionaire. Lydia, a single mother, dates an ex-con and struggles to make ends meet. But neither has recovered from the horror and heartbreak of their shared loss—a devastating wound that's cruelly ripped open when Claire's husband is killed.

The disappearance of a teenage girl and the murder of a middle-aged man, almost a quarter-century apart: what could connect them? Forming a wary truce, the surviving sisters look to the past to find the truth, unearthing the secrets that destroyed their family all those years ago . . . and uncovering the possibility of redemption, and revenge, where they least expect it.

Powerful, poignant, and utterly gripping, packed with indelible characters and unforgettable twists, Pretty Girls is a masterful novel from one of the finest writers working today.

Review:

I have to say I absolutely love a suspenseful, thriller to read at the beach. I don't know why, but I love a book that keeps me on the edge of the seat while I'm taking in the sun. So I opted to read Pretty Girls by Karen Slaughter while on vacation. And it did not disappoint one bit. This book is every bit messed up, some parts are down right gross, but it's so well written and the story is gripping, that you'll forget all about the yucky parts. There's three narrators to the story, one for the past and two for the present. The twists and turns that develop are jaw dropping, there were plenty of "Oh Sh!t" moments. I highly, highly, highly recommend this 5 star book that will keep you on your toes until the very end, xo!

From the archives | Summer Must Haves, Tips, & Tricks

Originally posted 7.28.15

Every Summer I always find myself reaching for the same products that are vacation must haves. Here's what gets me thru the warm Summer days and some tips & tricks for Summer survival!

It Cosmetics was nice enough to send me their CC Cream last Summer and it is perfection. It's an SPF 50 and the light formula is the perfect tan for my porcelain skin. It blends easy with just your fingers and really helps even everything out!

It's no secret that I am obsessed with nail polish and in the Summer I crave the bright and fun colors. Essie's Summer Collection is absolute perfection. I have 5 of the 6 colors and they are all super pigmented and opaque formulas. Shown is 'Private Weekend' and 'Saltwater Happy'. I also absolutely love the Marc Jacobs Beauty polishes and 'Shocking' is the perfect pink. I have it on my nails as I'm typing this.

NYX Butter Glosses are the best lippies for Summer. The colors just pop and they're easy to apply on the go. Two of my fave colors are 'Peaches and Cream' and 'Apple Strudel'.

Last but certainly not least, two products that are MUSTS if you hit the beach. The Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun and the SPF are two holy grail products. The SPF has a 12 hour moisturizer ribboned and applying it makes you skin fill soft, smooth, and protected. But were Hawaiian Tropic really hit the mark was with the After Sun. This stuff smells too die and it cools down your skin after being out in the sun, but on top of that it gives you 24 moisturization!

Now onto the Tips & Tricks to survive Summer.

Trick: Apply your sunscreen while being naked. Okay, okay, I know that sounds strange and it is. But I swear by this tip. Here's why it works; without having your bathing suit on, you'll be able to really apply the lotion to all over your skin and won't have to worry about missing spots near the edges of your suit. Go ahead and try it next time you're hitting the beach or pool and thank me later.

Tip: When on vacation, take a hair heat break! Every year, I bring my blow dryer and straightener with me and I don't even reach for them! (This year I used my straightener once to curl my hair after it had been blow dried two days before.) Your hair will be surviving the elements already, the sun, salt water, and pool water, it will need the vaca from other damaging things as well. Work with your hair's natural texture; for me, that's wearing it wavy with some mousse and hair spray. The braid has made a comeback and in a big way. It's a simple, pretty, and perfect Summer hairstyle.

Trick: This trick is kinda silly, but I have to included it...CRUSHED ICE. Okay, I know you read that and said "Kayla, that's not a trick. It's a common thing for most people." My ice machine in my fridge has been on the fritz, but on vacation, the fridge there is brand new and makes crushed ice. To me, it makes the drinks colder and more fun.

Tip: Read more! As a grown up, Summer really means the same thing as it does every other season, but if you're fortunate enough, you get to escape the office and head on a trip. If you don't have the funds or time to get the road to get away for a few days, pick up a book! Reading is a trip in it's self. It's no secret that I read A LOT. But I always try to maximize my reading in the Summer. It helps break up the routine of every day life. I read 3 and 1/2 books on vacation this year; Those Girls, I Take You, The Good Girl, and I'm finishing Grey now. (Reviews will be up soon, so keep an eye out!)

Let me know what your must haves for Summer are, until next time. Laters, xo!

a trilogy in review!

Brief Summary:

#1 New York Times bestselling author of Hopeless joins forces with the New York Times bestselling author of Mud Vein. Together, they have created a gripping, romantic tale unlike any other.

"How odd to be made of flesh, balanced on bone, and filled with a soul you've never met."

Charlize Wynwood and Silas Nash have been best friends since they could walk. They've been in love since the age of fourteen.
But as of this morning...they are complete strangers.
Their first kiss, their first fight, the moment they fell in love...every memory has vanished.
"I don't care what our real first kiss was," he says. "That's the one I want to remember."
Charlize and Silas must work together to uncover the truth about what happened to them and why. But the more they learn about the couple they used to be...the more they question why they were ever together to begin with.

"I want to remember what it feels like to love someone like that. And not just anyone. I want to know what it feels like to love Charlie."

Review:

I was doing some research on vacation books (not like my to be read list isn't already a mile and a half long...) when I stumbled upon 'Never Never'. A quick glance over the summary and I was sold. Well little did I know this was a novella trilogy, which I'll warn you now, just download them all at once, cause you will NEED to continue Charlie and Silas' story. *But I want to give a warning to you, some people are saying that books 2 and 3 being $2.99 is a rip off being it's a novella. Well I actually disagree, because think about it, you'd spend $9.99 on an ebook that's 200 + pages, right? It's a complete love story. I was so HOOKED. I completely was sucked into this suspenseful Romeo and Juliette type tale. Part of what makes this book so perfectly written is that it's co-written and you can't figure out who is driving what part of each chapter. I highly recommend this 15 star trilogy, that's right each book gets 5 stars in my opinion. Do yourself a favor a pick this up, I promise you'll love, xo!

Peaches & Pits of year 31!

Well here it is, my 32nd Birthday! Sheesh, 32...gross! But really, I feel more content in my 30s this year. It's just nuts to think that I'm 32, my poor parents must be having a panic attack cause that makes them so old, ha! Here's my highs & lows of my 31st year...

Peaches
I had quite a few things happen in April, which was probably my best month of my 31st year.
  • First, I won a National Cheerleading championship at the Collegiate level. It was a crazy weekend and I am honored to add that to my cheerleading career.
  • I got a promotion at work and celebrated my 3rd anniversary with the company! This was a welcomed change at work and I'm really proud of myself for moving up among the ranks.
  • My first magazine article went live! This was a scary and rewarding experience. I know I write daily here on the bloggy blog, but that was a whole new ballgame. And it's been a great learning experience. And the digital magazine even got printed which is INSANE to see my name and words in glossy color.
  • I rounded out April with another 1st place for cheerleading. As a coach, it can be the most unrewarding job at times. Especially with cheerleading. When you aren't in competition season, you spend most of your time convincing your athletes to buy into your system and conditioning schedule. But when you win, it makes it all worth it. Well, actually, when you see your group of kids perform their heart outs and give it 110% that's when it's worth it. The 1st place hardware is just icing on the cake!
  • The trip I took to Boston with my childhood bestie, JMichele. We had SO much fun and it was nice to have some time away together. We always pick up right where we leave off, but it was great to explore a new place with her by my side!
  • Christmas was super fun this year. Not that it isn't always fun, but the day felt not rushed and it was good to just unwind with my family. Also, it was unseasonable warm, like no jackets needed at all. I think it was practically 60 on Christmas Eve and I live in NY where December can be brutal. Even though it didn't feel like Christmas, it was almost like we were celebrating in a different place, it was different, but lovely. (How much of a run on sentance is that...?!)

Pits
These are always a bit harder for me, but that's a good thing! But here are what I could come up with...
  • Putting my blog on the back burner while coaching. Trying to work full time, coach part time, and blog the rest of the time really isn't a recipe for success. There were plenty of nights where I would get home from coaching at 11:30pm and stay up editing a blog post, answering emails, and responding to comments until 2am. And then getting up at 7:30 (okay, if you really know me, 8:10) for my 8:30-5. I feel like I missed almost a whole year in trying to up my blog game.
  • Basically quitting YouTube. I started doing videos on a literal whim on day last August and I was banging them out left and right, but then again cheer started and there went YT. But I want to start filming again really soon!
  • Not really dating. Well, I guess this is a kind pit. I am happy being single, I mean yes there are times I miss being part of a couple (esp when I'm the third or fifth wheel when I go out with my friends. Read about how I handle being the only single girl in my squad here) But all in all, I like being alone. When I think about getting in a relationship and not being able to just watch the Disney Channel for 6 hours in a row, it kinda bums me out. But then again, maybe it's just cause I haven't met the right guy. (Or maybe I have and he just lives a billion miles away...)

So here's to 32, I hope it's my best year yet! Xo!

Life Lesson | Save with Groupon Coupons!

This is a sponsored post. All opinions are mine.

Okay, so everyone knows about Groupon, right? It's a pretty amazing site that helps you save money for almost everything, but have you heard about Groupon Coupons? No? Well let me tell you all about the latest way to save!

Groupon Coupons does the clipping for you and puts all the coupons you could need in one clickable place. No really as of right now there are 65,491 free coupons at 10,223 stores...wowza! Think of all of the possibilities.

All without having to pay for any membership or fees, it's 100% free! The idea of looking at the website before heading out to the store for things you were already going to buy is one that I welcome! I love when you're on line to purchase something and think "Oh, wait is there a coupon?" I almost always do that at Ulta and hey, they're on the Groupon Coupon site!

You just have to search the site based on where you live and then you can narrow it down to the stores you shop at...it's seriously easy peasy!

Right when I found out about Groupon Coupons, I looked to see what stores were listed and I was so happy to see that all my favorites are accounted for:

And if that's not enough, there are 28 Starbucks coupons loaded right now. And 70 Target coupons...that's right 7-0. So what are you waiting for? Go check out Groupon Coupons and thank me later!

Pre-Bday Celebration!

So this past Saturday my two best friends, babytooth and MK threw a surprise for me. It all started on Thursday with this text...

Pretty random, right? So Friday night I pack this stuff in my backpack and head out to babytooth's house after my hair appointment.

Needless to say the whole ride I was wracking my brain to figure out what they had planned for me. I had given them a list (at their request) of things I'd like to do, but really none of the things fit into this random list of things. When I finally arrived and headed inside this was waiting for me...

Lobster is by far one of my favorite foods, but on top of the lobster boil they had all my faves. Watermelon, cornbread, corn on the cob, green beans, processco and...

Krispy Kreme cupcakes!

We chatted while they finished prepping dinner and then it was time to get down to business.

If you can ever have a lobster boil, I highly recommend it! I swear it was the easiest thing. Okay, true I had nothing to do with cooking it, but it was AMAZING and the girls said it was pretty easy.

After dinner, we dove right into the Krispy Kreme cuppycakes and they were SO tasty. If you're a fan of the donuts, keep an eye out for this cake mix for a fun twist at home.

After that, the girls made me take everything I packed out so they could get a pic to see that I really took their list seriously. Even though the list was to just throw me off completely...!

Once we were stuffed, we took some pictures and they told me they had one last surprise...make your own COTTON CANDY! Which if you know me at all, you know that cotton candy is my absolute favorite food ever.

We finished off my pre-birthday celebration with an always fun game of Heads Up! And the laughs were completely endless. At the end of the day, I have the two best friends a girl could ask for, they always know just how to make me feel special and loved, xo!

Summer Bucket List

Summer Bucket List

In no particular order, here is a list of things I'd like to do this Summer!

Have a picnic at a winery
Go to the Drive-Ins
Eat Lobster done 7.9.16!
Go Mini-Golfing
Take a mini road trip with my besties
Go to the wine bar in Kingston

Get a vanilla ice cream cone with rainbow sprinkles
Catch a lighting bug
The list isn't to extensive and shouldn't be hard to complete, but I'm glad I put it together so I can have a reminder of just exactly what I want to do. Let me know what you have planned with Summer in the comments, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

When Gina Rossi was in junior high, her best friend’s psychic grandmother got everything right—from predicting that Gina would break her arm and travel to Italy, all the way to leading police to a missing neighborhood child. The one time Gina didn’t listen to her, she almost got herself killed. So when she says that Gina will marry a man named Ethan—but she will have to wait for him—Gina believes her, and waits…

Now thirty-six, Gina’s Mr. Right is nowhere in sight—until the day she’s stranded in a snowstorm, and rescued by the last type of Ethan she expected. It’s very romantic, yet surprisingly not. This Ethan is sexy, and clearly her hero. Still, instead of her “Aha” moment, Gina’s confused. And when Ethan is happy to discover she’s single, does Gina dare tell him, It’s because I've been waiting for you. But the bigger question is, does she dare question destiny—by taking it into her own hands? And is she brave enough to handle what happens once it’s time to stop waiting—and start living?

“Fans of romantic beach-reads will find that this book’s charismatic heroine makes it an engrossing page-turner.” --Kirkus Reviews

Review:

This may be the cutest book ever. I felt like it read like a made for TV rom com. There were funny parts, sad parts, parts where you wanted to shake some sense into the main character, Gina...Waiting for Ethan has it all! As someone who believes in psychics, I was sold on this story when I read the synopsis. I think the story's message is that what's for you will not pass you and I am a firm believer in that. Do yourself a favor and pick this 5 star rom com up, you won't be disappointed! And okay, okay, I know I say this every time, but this is honestly a perfect beach/weekend read, xo!

June Faves!

Holy crap, where did June go?! I swear I blinked and it was over. Sheesh, well here we are and here's another go at my monthly favorites. Let's get on with it, shall we?

Beauty Faves
Essence in Cool Nude-this has been my go to almost everyday. It's perfect on it's own or with a gloss. I like to layer it with Kylie's Heir or my next fave.
Anastasia Beverly Hills in Dainty-I think it's safe to say I layer this gloss over every lippie I have. I love it over the Essence lipstick above or over my Tori LaLa Cabana Crasher which is another fave, but I forgot to post it in the picture above. (god, I'm the worst blogger ever, sheesh!)
Maybelline Skinny Liner in Black or Brown-Yup, love them both! It lasts all day and the skinny tip makes it east to apply. Love these!
Covergirl Ready, Set, Gorgeous in 105 & Elf Tinted Moisturizer-I love to mix these two together as of lately. You can see my recent foundation routine here
Elizabeth Arden Mascara-I'm so happy this came in the RachhLoves box and I keep reaching for this one. It's super black and the rubber brush really helps separate my lashes. The formula lasts all day long.
IT Cosmetics duo brush-No matter what other brushes I have this crease brush is everything. It blends so quick and easily, it's a staple for sure.
And last, but certainly not least Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Glow Palette-Ob-freaking-sessed with this bad boy. I use this palette for legit everything. If I'm wearing any makeup at all, I have one or 3 of these shades on. I use the blush for eyeshadow and the highlighters for eyeshadow. I use the blush over my lippie. I just use the crap of out this. Pick it up if you are a fan of highlighters, it's a must have!

Random Faves
App | Instagram-I know that's pretty random, but I have been loving IG. I love finding new people to follow.
Book | Paper Princess by Erin Watt-OMG. I can't even tell you how much I love this book. Fangirl to the max on this one. July 29th, can't get here soon enough...Broken Prince will be DEVOURED. Heck, I may read Paper Princess again before.
Music | hot days, hot beats by your's truly-my Summer playlist on Spotify: kpaine718 has been killing the game in my humble opinion. Check it out!

Let me know what your Summer faves are in the comments, xo!

1st & 2nd Impression | Loreal Infalliable Pro Glow Foundation

The new, hard to find, member of the Loreal family promises to give a 24 hour hydrating glow to dry skin. And well if that wasn't a selling point to me, then I don't know what would be. The second I heard of this bad boy, I've been on high alert! After not finding it and telling the Ulta employees about this gem...twice, I finally got my hands on it at Target and they had one 102 Classic Ivory left, 1! Imagine my luck!

I gave this beauty a try both Sunday and Monday and here's how it went.

very filtered snapchat I sent my friends to show the pro-glow in action.
follow me on snapchat: blondek18

Sunday-I decided on no primer and no setting spray to see how this held up. I was going to be outside for a few hours at my cousin's semi-pro soccer game. This foundation goes on like a complete dream. It's so light weight and gives off a nice dewy glow. It reminds me of when I add the Loreal Lumi Primer to my foundation. When I went to take it off about 10 hours later, it still look liked I had just applied it. Which you'll just have to take my word for cause I don't have a pic of it...moving on.

same filter as yesterday. testing out a red lippie as well...multitasking at it's finest people!

Monday-I was feeling a little frisky on this no plans day off, so I decided to mix the lumi primer with the foundation. And let me tell you....dayummm, glow for days! My high points were beaming the rest of my face just had a healthy glow. Again, no setting spray and it stayed like a champ! The coverage is definitely on the lighter side, but buildable. Below is a unfilter pic to show the coverage.

It's safe to say this foundation will be a permanent feature in my collection and everyday life from now on, xo!

Instagram Mission Impossible...?

Wow, it's the first day of July! Where has this year gone?! In case you didn't know, July happens to be my favorite month, why is that you ask? Cause my favorite holiday happens in July and I'm not talking about the 4th. Nope, someone else pretty darn great celebrates her birth this month...me, duh! So to honor my birth month, I am challenging myself to IG a picture a day!

My Life Happy Planner is out of stock, but you can find similar ones here

Okay, it may not seem that big of a challenge, but to be honest it's going to be harder than you think. A lot (and I'm talking a lot) goes into Instagram pics of mine (well for the most part). Some I do on the fly, but others I really take the time to plan out. And don't even get me started with the hashtags. But I am taking on this challenge with open arms (& eyes!) and can't wait!  Lots of fun stuff coming up this month besides my bday, vacation is on it's way too :) so be sure you are following me on Instagram: @polishedandbubbly to see how I'm doing!
