a book in review!

Brief Summary:
Valentino County Detective Gwendolyn Anderson tries to solve the biggest case of her Career. Serial Killer AKA The Doctor is on the loose, killing innocent women, leaving them dead with a smile painted on their face. Some trademark he has.

Detective Anderson is determined to do everything in her power to solve The Doc case before the FBI takes it under their wing. She has only six months to solve the murders of over twenty women from this serial killer, in the process of solving other cases that come through Hillside Police Department.

Can she take down the biggest serial killer in Valentino County without ruining her career in the process?

Review:
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. Holy edge of your seat! I couldn't believe how engaged I became into this creepy mystery. I love mysteries and thrillers and Killer doesn't disappoint! I loved that it was a novella and a quick read and that episode 2 is already out so I can devour that next! I recommend this 4 star thriller to anyone who needs a good, quick mystery with tons of twists and turns, xo!

Recap | Boston & #getscene magazine launch party

This past weekend, my childhood best friend Jen & I headed to Boston for the #getscene magazine launch party. We were so excited to have a girls' night away, I made us an epic playlist and we hit the road. Once we checked into our hotel it was go time to start getting ready for my big night. I was so excited to finally meet my editor Jaclyn who I've been emailing for months & months.

The party was on a yacht that was docked at a pier that over looked the Boston skyline. It was a beautiful night and the sunset was amazing. Of course, I didn't take any pictures! But I did make some new friends in Erica and Sara. After the night was over, Jen & I headed back to our hotel for some food and relaxation.

We hit the town on Saturday and both had a great time exploring Boston. We found so many cute shops at Quincy Market and I finally had a lobster roll (OMG..delish!) Then we headed to Boylston St where I was lucky enough to snag a custom Naked 3 palette.

Boston was a perfect city for a getaway with one of the people I love most and I wouldn't have traded this past weekend for anything! Xo!

Red Carpet Style | Billboard Music Awards

Another carpet, this time it was pink (!), another carpet look for celeb Kayla. I went with a color a little out of my comfort zone, but let's see what you all think. Remember to tell me if you think I'll make the best dressed list or not below!

An orange Balmain textured mini paired with all gold jewelry and nude strappy heels, I think would pop right off the pink carpet and look great for this pre-Summer award show.

A dramatic cut crease smokey eye with nude baby pink nails paired with a rosey pout top off the orange pop of color in my dress. For hair, I think a version of the trendy fun bun, half up half down bun look complete this look for a night of music and fun!

Best dressed for this fun look or a complete miss, let me know in the comments, xo!

a book in review!

Blurb

Chloe Richards is a small town girl with a big heart. At least, that’s what the local folk of Rosehip Village think. But when her parents turn up on her doorstep asking for help, her secret past is about to be revealed.
Being the daughter of Hollywood royalty was never going to be easy, but at 19, Chloe Richards managed to leave that life behind along with the scandals that almost destroyed her. A fresh start was all she needed, and a fresh start was what she got in Rosehip. Girlfriend of a local bookshop owner, best friends with fiercely loyal café owner and owner of a perfume business herself, Chloe has a happy life. But her parents are about to turn her perfect life on its head. Again.
What do you do when you’re torn between loyalty and protecting yourself? Should you trust your heart when your head is telling you not to?

Review:
I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I was hooked on this story from the first line. There's something about the author's voice that just sucked me in. I couldn't wait to see if Chloe's secret would be found out or what was in store for her. This book has all that good chick lit has to offer, ups & downs with some laughs along the way. I recommend this 4 start book as a perfect Sunday read, xo!

Ellen lives in the wonderful county of Yorkshire, England with her husband where she spends most of her time with her nose in her laptop, a book or plate of food.

Legal secretary and daydreamer by day, writer and serial tweeter by night, Ellen finally decided to put all the magic in her head to some use one day and put finger to laptop where The Story of Us was born and became her debut novel. Four novels later, the daydreams are still going strong, thankfully!

She loves to travel and enjoys taking her readers on a journey to escape with her, in whatever country or village she decides on next.

Product Review | Travel Tan's Gradual Tanning Moisturizer Plus Sunscreen*

I'm pretty lucky and the awesome people over at Custom Tan are letting me try their products and tell you all what I think!* Today I'm going to tell you all about the Travel Tan-Gradual Tanning Moisturizer Plus Sunscreen

First, let's talk about the smell of this product. It smells ah-maz-ing, like cinnamon buns. Which is not your first thought when you think about a tanning product, but I will take it.

Now let's discuss the packaging. It comes in this really cool pouch with a twist off cap. I think that this is the ideal packaging for a product like this. The cap really makes sure that none of the product will dry out. And then the pouch is easy to carry with you and get the product out.

Last, let's talk about how the product actually works! (spoiler alert, I am a terrible blogger and have ZERO pictures of it on..) But the color payoff is amazing! It gave me a nice golden glow in just 6 hours! If I had exfoliated like you always should before using a product that leaves color behind, I may have even worn a dress that's how good the color was on my legs. The lotion it's self is white and was easy to see where I was applying so it didn't leave behind any streaks. I picked up an exfoliator so after I use that and reapply over the weekend, I'll let you know on snapchat & IG how it looks :)

Do you have a favorite sunless tanner line? Let me know, xo!

*this product was sent to me in exchange for my honest review

Must or Bust | Garnier Face

I'm a Simple girl...no really, Simple skincare products are my jam. But a while back I was at Rite Aid, the Garnier skincare line was buy one, get one 50%, so I went for it. I needed more micellar water (which is a dry skin girl's best friend...trust me on this.) and the makeup wipes. I got sensitive skin ones cause my skin hasn't been to happy lately.

For the micellar cleansing water-the water separates easily from the product and it doesn't seem to remove my makeup. I started using it after I washed my face as an extra remover and even then I didn't see anything on the cotton round. I also didn't feel like there was any additional moisture in my skin after using and with the Simple water, I didn't even feel like I needed an additional moisturizer. I know there are people that swear my this brand of water, but I am not one of them.

As for the face wipes, it takes me a looonnnggg time to be all in for a face wipe. And again the Simple ones are my favorite, but I wanted to give these a whirl. Well I absolutely hate these. I got the sensitive skin ones cause my skin has been all over the place lately, but I think these irritate my skin! My face is blotchy and red after I use them and I feel like 75% of my makeup is still on. Sooo I think you can guess, but are these a must or a bust...?

All and all, I'm glad I gave the Garnier face products a whirl, but they are a no-go for me. You won't see them in my cart anytime soon.

Any skincare products you've tried recently that you love or hate? Let me know in the comments down below, xo!

Six by Summer update!

May 5th marked the official halfway point of Spring, so here I am, a few days late of course, with an update on how I'm doing in the Six by Summer challenge!

update- I still have about the same amount less of this badboy. Well maybe just a touch less...aka fail.

update- go check out polishedandbubbly on IG to see how I did with this one!

update- about 50% done with this one, I think I'll definitely have this one done by Summer day one.

update- not sure why I put this one my list. I almost NEVER reach for it in the shower for two reasons: 1-the packaging sucks. it's so hard to get the conditioner out once it starts to get low & 2-I'm addicted to Paul Mitchell's Forever Blonde conditioner.

update- ehhh, I'll say that I have about 75% left of this one. So I promise I'll try to reach for it more.

update- I have about 15% left of this guy. When I use it, I also use it as a concealer. I really do love this foundation and it's moose-y consistency.

Check out my friends who are joining in on the fun!

To Be Read...

Last week I shared my May goal list for the blog, but this week I bring you my to be read list for Summer! If you don't know this about me (well, then you must be new here, so hello!) I love to read. It's one of my favorite things to do and in the Summer, I seem to go through books like water. My to be read list is always a mile long, so I thought by putting it on here, it'd be a good reminder. So in no particular order here are the books on my Summer read list..

What are some books you are dying to read this Summer? Let me know in the comments, xo!

Beauty Confession...

I have found my product of the year...yes, I know the year isn't even half way through, but you need this in your life. Trust! Clearly I'm talking about the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer. This stuff is a dewy face lover's dream.

I love to put it on my finger tips and dab it all over my face. After I rub it in, I put on my tinted moisturizer or foundation of the day. And then I go back in and use this bad boy to highlight. If I'm feeling extra Jaclyn Hill-y, I'll then pop a powder highlight over it and volia, the most dewy and highlighted skin is mine!

You can find the L'Oreal Magic Lumi Primer anywhere L'Oreal products are sold. It may be sold out, but keep your eyes peeled people...!

Let me know what your fave product of the year is so far down below, xo!

Cinco De Mayo Sangria!

In honor of Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, here’s my sangria recipe! I’ve made it for numerous parties and always get asked for the recipe from almost any one who tries it, so my friends, I share it with you!

White Sangria
2 green apples
2 red apples
1 pear
3 oranges (leave peels on)
1 can of pineapple (in it’s own syrup)
1 pint of Triple Sec (or any orange liqueur)
1 mag of Barefoot Riesling (or any sweet Riesling) *
4 dole cups of mandarin oranges (in their own syrup or juice-extremely important!)
*If you prefer a drier white sangria, use a Sauvignon Blanc

Take dole cups and throw them in the freezer-you’ll be using these as ice cubes, you want them in their own juices so they don’t water down the sangria, instead they’ll add more juice. (You can also take a can of pineapple or mandarin oranges in their own juices and pour them into an ice cube tray and make cubes that way..) Wash fruit and cut into small cubes. Put all the fruit into a bowl and pour half of the pint of triple sec over the fruit and put into the fridge. (You can add more triple sec to the fruit if you’d like, just be sure it’s all covered.) Before serving, add half of the bowl to a pitcher, then pour in wine. Add the rest of the bowl of fruit and then stir. Add fruit ice cubes and serve.
I like to save some of the fruit incase I need to make more pitchers. The longer the fruit soaks, the better! If you are having trouble getting the dole cups out of their containers, run them under hot water or soak in a bowl of hot water until loose.

Here’s to sangria and tacos or nachos! Xo
