Life Lesson | Thoughts I have while in the sink at the salon

Phew, that was a mouthful. But I had tons of thoughts when I was getting washed out, having toner applied, conditioned, and shock treatment last week at the salon. If you know anything about being platinum, it's a lot of your appointment is spent at the sink. I actually think I spend most of the 3-4 hours in the sink, so naturally, your mind starts to wonder. Here's actual thoughts I had last week:

"Ahh, okay, rinse time. Let's do this"
"Hmm, she set up the chair differently. Oh well." "That's a good tempature." "Why isn't she talking to me?" "Do I keep my eyes open? Closed?" *Okay, closed it is" "Now does she think I'm weird?" "Oh whatever, okay enjoy this part." "Eh, she keeps only washing behind the left ear...why is that?" "Crap, I need to charge my phone" "Move your hands around!" "Would it be weird if I asked her to apply more pressure?" "Yeah, I don't know here, that's weird. She'll probably think I'm a freak..." "Okay, what else can I get done today?" "I need to email Emma." "I need to take product pics." "I wonder if anyone will notice I cut my hair at work." "I really need to clean my room." "Maybe this weekend" "Eh, maybe not this weekend." "Okay, rinsing out the toner." "Hot! HOT! Shit, that water has to be burning her hands" "I have to say something" "No, just make a noise to show you're uncomforatble." "Shit, that didn't work." "Okay, say something that is unbarable" "Halfway done!" "I should be reading articles to get inspired for posts" *reads articles* "Oh wow, that went quick, now time for Olaplex" *back to reading and texting* "Alright all rinsed out, and now time to dry" "Hmm, maybe they forgot I'm over here" "I'll just shake my foot and they'll see it and know I'm over here" "Oh man, I'm hungry." "I wish I had more Starbucks" "My neck is really hurting from sitting like that" "I read that article about that lady that had a stroke from sitting in the sink at the salon" "Shoot, how long do you think it was after?" "I think I'm going to paint my nails red this weekend." *glances at clock* "Shit, I've been here for 3 hours?!" "Man, time flies" "I think I have to pee...wait it's time to hit the dryer." "Phew okay, don't fall asleep under the drier!"

This post was inspired by Meghan's "Thoughts you have while in the shower" video

Let me know what you think while you're at the sink or in the shower, cause you aren't alone with your weird thoughts :) xo!

Must or Bust | Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara

Let's talk about sex, baby!

Hey, get your mind out of the gutter-this is a classy website run by a modest girl. There's no doubt that all of my friends just died laughing ;) but really I wanna talk about Too Faced's Better Than Sex mascara!

I finally jumped on the bandwagon and gave it a whirl after Emily's post and seeing it in 15 YouTube videos. I used my ShopKick points and pulled the trigger.

This mascara gets some mixed reviews with my friends and on the internet. But I found the formula not too dry, not too wet, kinda in the middle. Just where I like it! It gave my lashes just the right amount of volume and a really nice length. The hourglass shaped wand really helps get the lashes separated.

Left is with TF Better Than Sex, Right is no mascara

So duhhhh, this mascara is a...

Must or Bust | Taste Test

Oreo Thins Mint
So I'm a little late on the thin Oreo bandwagon, but hey, better late than never, right?!
Smell: Minty and Chocolatey, kinda like Mint Chocolate Chip ice cream
Taste: DE-effing-LISH. These are a better for you (4 cookies for 140 calories) Thin Mint option. They taste just like them and if you can grab them on sale, they are WAYY cheaper than Girl Scout cookies!

I don't think it's any surprise that these are a huge

Red Carpet Style | KCA's

I've always loved the KCA's, they're silly, fun, and the fashion follows suit. Take a look at what I would've worn for the Orange Carpet!

This cobalt blue lacey dress just spoke to me, there's something about the color that would just pop on the carpet. I paired it with a gorgeous pair of Jimmy Choos appropriately named 'Layla' (one of my nicknames!) For jewels, I kept it simple with some fun gold rings and big hoops. Finishing touch is a neon Henri Bendel clutch!

For glam, I kept it fun and young. Hair is this amazing braided bun that is both messy and perfect. Nails are a cool white with a negative space design. Eyes with a full wing and pink color up look so perfect with Lime Crime's Pink Velvet.

Let me know what you think of this look and if I would've made the best or worst dressed list in the comments, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:

Alive with intensity, gut-wrenching honesty, moments of humor, and—of course—heart. Not to be missed.”—Nova Ren Suma, author of Imaginary Girls and The Walls Around Us
A stunning novel about the transformative power of love, perfect for fans of Jay Asher and Laurie Halse Anderson.
Sixteen-year-old physics nerd Aysel is obsessed with plotting her own death. With a mother who can barely look at her without wincing, classmates who whisper behind her back, and a father whose violent crime rocked her small town, Aysel is ready to turn her potential energy into nothingness.
There’s only one problem: she’s not sure she has the courage to do it alone. But once she discovers a website with a section called Suicide Partners, Aysel’s convinced she’s found her solution—Roman, a teenage boy who’s haunted by a family tragedy, is looking for a partner.
Even though Aysel and Roman have nothing in common, they slowly start to fill in each other’s broken lives. But as their suicide pact becomes more concrete, Aysel begins to question whether she really wants to go through with it. Ultimately, she must choose between wanting to die or trying to convince Roman to live so they can discover the potential of their energy together.

Review:

Like any avid reader, I have a "to be read" list that's probably a mile long. Whether I'm out and see a cover that interest me or it's one everyone is talking about, I add it to the list in my notes on my iPhone. A week or two before Valentine's Day, I was in the mood to read something a little dark and of substance, I pulled out the list and saw 'My Heart and Other Black Holes'. I headed over to BN.com and iBooks to compare prices and bam it was mine. I started in a was instantly sucked in. I love books where the main character has a strong voice and you can tell that they are definitely going through something. I tend to connect to these characters because I start to see them as my friend. Someone who needs me to help them through the heavy stuff they're carrying on their shoulders. Aysel needed a friend and I couldn't put her story down cause I wanted to be there for her. Her story is very meaningful and should be one that's heard. Everyone feels what she goes through on some level. I loved this story and every high and low it had. It's a story that has points that will make you laugh even though it's a sad story that will way heavy on your heart. I recommend this 5 star book to anyone who wants to read a story that will haunt you and grip at your heart, and your other black holes, xo!

Bio: I'm Savannah Kinney! I started using Instagram to market my Etsy shop last spring. I had only a few hundred followers, and almost zero engagement. Several months later I have a following of over 5,000, with an audience that can't wait to see what I post next. I'm passionate about sharing what I've learned with other creative business owners!

Red Carpet Style; Oscars

Fashions biggest night is also movies biggest night. Now while I can't say I've seen all of the best movie noms (okay, confession, I haven't seen any of them, but Room is on my list because I LOVED the book!) I do keep a very close eye on the Red Carpet. My personal faves are always Jennifer Lawrence who's always in Dior, Kate Beckinsale, and Giuliana Rancic. But here's what I would've worn Oscar night!

When I was looking through gowns, I knew when I saw this Georges Hobeika embellished gown. To me it screams princess and I think that's how you should feel on the Oscar Red Carpet. I paired this purple-grey sparkly dress with Giuseppe Zanotti pale pink strappy heels and a sparkly clutch. Now for jewels, Suzanne Kalan earrings that cost as much as a mid-size sedan and two rose gold rings.

For glam, less is always more on the carpet, so I kept that in mind when selecting what would go with my stunning gown. A pale purple polish, nude pink lips, with a slightly sparkly eye with bold lashes. For hair, an intricate chignon would be the icing on the cake.

Let me know what you think and if I'd end up on the best dressed list, xo!

Interview with Ashley Landry

Okay, it's no real secret that I spend a lot of time on YouTube. I have a few fave vloggers, but Ashley Landry may be my most favorite. She's so funny, real, and absolutely slays with a makeup brush. So when I DMed her on IG and she said yes to doing an interview with me-I fangirled for days! I love that she took the time to do this and can't wait to see what's next for her in the future!

p&b: How did you get into makeup?

During the winter of 2013, I got very sick where I was home for 2 months straight and you can only watch your favorite movies and tv shows so many times before you start to go crazy. I decided to one day watch some YouTube videos from the vloggers I followed on Instagram and I fell in love with makeup from that moment on. I wanted every product that they would use and that was the only thing I asked for that Christmas. I would watch a video everyday and try the looks on myself. From then on I pretty much just taught myself how to do all the tricks and techniques.

-----------------

p&b: What made you become a youtuber/iger?

I was asked by many Instagram followers if I filmed videos for YouTube because they many wanted to know the steps in how I create my looks. I always wanted to but never knew how to start and or when the right time would be for me to go through with it.
When I felt the moment was right I went for it and couldn't be happier.

-----------------

p&b: Product you can't live without?

Makeup wise I can not live without a primer. I feel like it just preps your skin and is the base for your whole look. Foundations are very important as well but when I look at my makeup at the end of the day I can tell whether the primer did it's job or not. Besides makeup... I would have to say coffee... Is coffee considered a product? Hahaha. Well I think it is. I cannot function without coffee everyday. I'm sure everyone can agree with me on that one.

-----------------

p&b: Favorite nail polish color?

I currently have 2 colors that are my go-to's. Both by OPI. My favorite is Bubble Bath and the other is Let's Be Friends.

-----------------
p&b: Starbucks order?

This is going to sound crazy but I really am not a fan of Starbucks coffee. I know. I know. I know. If I ever go to Starbucks and get something, I always go for the classic hot chocolate in the winter time. Dunkin Donuts is my favorite place for coffee. Blueberry (hot or iced) coffee light and sweet is my signature drink. But I am open to hearing anyone's favorite Starbucks order..

-----------------

p&b: What's a typical day look like for you?

A typical day for me is always hectic especially filming days. Everyday, I wake up at 6 in the morning and I relax until 8 o clock and then the day begins. I have breakfast, take care of the dogs, shower, and then I start to set up everything for filming. Depending on what I am filming, it could take anywhere from 2 to 4 hours. On top of that of course there are everyday things that I need to do. So I don't get a moment to sit down until I go to sleep at night.

-----------------
p&b: You're stranded on a deserted island, what 3 things must you have with you?

Ooooooooooh. Here we go. 1. Coffee. Yes. I'm addicted.  2. My phone because then I could call someone to come get me. :) 3. My dog Penny. I need to have her there with me so I'm not alone.

-----------------

p&b: Advice for anyone wanting to break into the beauty vlog world?

My two pieces of advice would be to have fun with it and to know who you are before you start. I absolutely love being able to connect with my subscribers as well as film and edit my videos. It's my favorite part of being a beauty vlogger. But when you put yourself out there, there are always people that want to say something negative about you. For me I've been through a lot, my family has been through a lot, and because of that I know who I am as a person. No matter what anyone says about me, as long as I have my family and friends, people can write whatever they want. The ones that are the most important know the real me. You have to be confident in yourself and be proud of everything you put out there.

-----------------

p&b: What type of camera do you use for pics and video?

As of right now, I use the same camera to take my photos and videos! It's the Sony Nex 6. I hope to one day be able to get a separate camera for filming but currently my Sony has not failed me. I owe everything to that camera. Hahaha.

-----------------
p&b: Best love advice you've ever got?

I personally have never received any amazing advice on love. With each relationship you learn something new about yourself and qualities that you want or don't want. I think the best advice I could give is to find that one person who loves you more than you love yourself. Someone who has been there for you through the darkest moments in life and has cheered you on during the greatest times. Someone who will be your number one fan. I have learned that I want someone who treats me like I'm something special. Someone who looks at me like there is no one else in the room. It's those little things to me that let me know if I'm with the right person. Everyone goes through breakups and believe me, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel. When you feel like you will never find another person.. trust me when I say that sometimes the greatest ones come into your life when you least expect it.

-----------------
p&b: What's next for you?

I hope to only go up from here. My YouTube channel thankfully is continuing to get new subscribers which is something that I still can not believe. As a makeup artist, I am booking clients all the time for occasions, weddings, parties and it's such a huge compliment. I want to accomplish so much in my career and I am very happy with how things are going right now. I just want to continue to learn, continue to inspire, and continue to be the best person that I can be.
