a book in review & author interview

Brief Summary:

Sydney journalist Charli Cooper is making major changes in her life. She has no idea what destiny has in store for her as she moves half way around the world for a fresh start.

Jack Manning is everything Charli shouldn't want. He is arrogant, cocky and use to getting what he wants. He has no time to deal with an inexperienced journalist who has no idea of the New York social hierarchy.

As she unlocks the truth about Manning and his empire, she realises all is not as it seems and if she digs deep enough, she might just find the story she has been looking for. She has to make a decision between her ambition and her heart.

Will the secrets they both hold cause their delicately poised relationship to crumble?

Can one mistake unravel their lives?

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This book is the perfect easy, lazy Sunday read. The author deliveries a story that gives you more than you bargain for. It has everything you could ask for in a chick lit novel.  There's love, a little mystery, a whole lot of New York, and a few tears along the way. As much as I enjoyed this story, I really loved Suzanne's writing style, her storytelling makes this book so enjoyable. I recommend this 5 star book to anyone who is in the mood for a great, light weekend read, xo!

Author Interview:

P&B: How did you get into writing?
Suzanne Nicole: My mum and sister are both writers.  I'm forever inventing stories in my head and thought it would be great to get in and have a go at converting them to words on paper.

P&B: Authors who've influenced you?
Suzanne Nicole: Oh so many authors I love reading from classic authors to more contemporary authors … hmm I've read a lot of Jessica Sorensen, Colleen Hoover, Marian Keyes, Phillipa Gregory, Diana Gabaldron just to name a few.

P&B: How long did it take you to write Unravelled?
Suzanne Nicole: Around two years including going through the three stages of editing, which was really hard as I knew I couldn't touch it while I was waiting for comments and changes to come through.

P&B: What's your writing process?
Suzanne Nicole: Sitting in bed converting my hand-written notes into something that resembles a story on the computer.

P&B: Fave breakfast food?
Suzanne Nicole: Bacon and egg wrap … although I normally have cereal.

P&B: Coffee or tea? How do you take it?
Suzanne Nicole: Oh neither … but I'm pretty partial to a hot chocolate :)

P&B: Ideal day?
Suzanne Nicole: Sitting by the pool on a warm day reading ...

P&B: What's up next in your writing career?
Suzanne Nicole: I have started my next book with a new snarky male who is not to pleased about having to come to Australia.

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This is one of those stories that just makes sense from the beginning. I don't mean that the sense that the main character has everything figured out, but that the writing is so flawless, it seems seamless. Lotus is an amazing main character and is so well developed as she embarks on her journey. She's one of those characters you feel a connection with. I recommend this 5 star book as a definite book club read and for anyone who needs a page turner in their life! Can't wait for the sequel, xo!

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is as much a story that pulls on your heart strings as it is funny! The perfect combo for a great chick lit story. The main characters struggle with their mother-daughter relationship and there's times it feels so real. Hilary does an amazing job of fully developing the characters. In this contemporary romantic comedy Charlotte Young and her five closest friends ring in the New Year on a ski vacation in the swanky, celebrity-packed French Alps, where her world collides with long-time celebrity crush, Des Bannerman. Lighthearted banter turns into tabloid fodder, and Charlotte sets about dealing with the fallout of her fifteen minutes of fame. This story explores what happens when the paths of a celebrity god and a mere mortal collide.

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. First how pretty is this cover?! This story is very fast paced, at times I almost felt like I was missing something. The group of girls are all very different, but blend together nicely for the story. You'd expect to see these 5 girls out for Brunch together. This story was a quick weekend read, it'd be a great travel companion which is perfect because the girls head on a trip as well. If you like funny, drama packed books with celebrities, and a wild ride, than this 3.5 star chick lit read is just for you, xo!

a book in review!

Review:

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I've loved Merdith's books in the past so I was really excited to dive into this one. From the first sentence, I knew I was going to be hooked on this story. Maggie's voice is so clear and you feel instantly like you're one of her friends. She is main character who is on a journey to find herself and what she really desires out of life. I think all women go thru everything she is feeling. NYC is the perfect back drop for this fun loving story. I recommend this 5 star book as a must read for any CL lover, xo!

Brief Summary:

What if you were approaching the end of your thirties and all of the life milestones you took for granted in your youth suddenly seemed out of reach?

On the eve of her thirty-ninth birthday, Maggie Piper doesn’t look, act, or feel much different than she did at twenty-nine, but with her fortieth birthday speeding toward her like a freight train, she wonders if she should. The fear of a slowing metabolism, wrinkling of her skin, and the ticking of her biological clock leaves Maggie torn between a desire to settle down like most of her similarly aged peers and concern that all is not perfect in her existing relationship. When a spontaneous request for a temporary “break” from her live-in boyfriend results in a “break-up,” Maggie finds herself single once again and only twelve months from the big 4.0. In the profound yet bumpy year that follows, Maggie will learn, sometimes painfully, that life doesn’t always happen on a schedule, there are no deadlines in love, and age really is just a number.

In this mature coming of age novel, Meredith Schorr, best-selling author of light women’s fiction, digs deep and raises the age old issue of the ‘proverbial clock’ that haunts many women,in a way that is refreshing and sassy no matter your age or relationship status.

Author Bio:

A born and bred New Yorker, Meredith Schorr discovered her passion for writing when she began to enjoy drafting work-related emails way more than she was probably supposed to. After trying her hand penning children's stories and blogging her personal experiences, Meredith found her calling writing chick lit and contemporary women's fiction. She secures much inspiration from her day job as a hard-working trademark paralegal and her still single (but looking) status. Meredith is also the co-founder of BookBuzz, a live author/reader event held annually. She is a loyal New York Yankees fan and an avid runner. How Do You Know? is her fourth novel. Peri in Progress

Author: Cat Lavoie

Genre: Chick Lit

Release Date: October 28

Blurb:

You know what they say about best-laid plans…

After a disastrous thirty-first birthday party where she gets stood-up by a man she isn’t supposed to be dating, Peri McKenna decides it’s time to change what hasn’t been working—which is pretty much everything. Her love life is going nowhere fast, she’s bored to tears by a job that makes her the office pariah, and the lifelong junk food addiction that used to be somewhat quirky is now positively problematic. To top it all off, her newly-purchased home is falling apart and wishful thinking hasn’t done much to fix the leaky roof.

It’s time be an adult now that she’s officially ‘thirty-something.’
But when the first step of Peri’s self-improvement plan backfires, she starts to wonder if change might be overrated.

Enter Milo Preston, an up-and-coming chef who’s in town to take over a local restaurant. When Peri and Milo begin working together, she finds it hard to ignore his easy charm and captivating emerald-green eyes. Since Milo is her best friend’s estranged brother, Peri has to keep reminding herself that he is completely off-limits. As they grow closer, Milo introduces Peri to new foods, the joy (and pain) of jogging, and makes her think her luck might finally be turning.
But when the past catches up with them, Peri finds herself back at square one. Will she be able to sort herself out—or will the roof cave in on her once and for all?
