a book in review!

Brief Summary:

With her Broadway opening night a few weeks away savvy young producer, Scarlett Savoy, is finally ready for her brand new musical to take center stage. Only two major things stand in her way - the beautiful but mercurial Hollywood diva she's cast in the lead and a handsome familiar face from her past who flies back into her life. From high stakes rehearsal rooms, to paparazzi fueled scandals, to the star-studded red carpet of opening night, Starstruck is a page-turning journey behind the scenes of Broadway, all set against the glittering back drop of Manhattan. Will Scarlett make it to opening night before the curtain falls on her dreams?

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I love the theater, Broadway, and drama and this book has all of it! Manhattan is one of my very favorite places, so being that this story takes place there, I was instantly hooked. I felt like this book was a reality TV show I couldn't wait to tune into. This is definitely a weekend read kind of book, you won't want to put it down! I recommend this for 4.5 star book to anyone who loves a book that you can get lost in, xo!

Ruby Preston is a young Broadway producer currently working on several new musicals on the Great White Way. She couldn't be more thrilled to be living her dreams in the Times Square trenches of Manhattan. Starstruck is her third novel and includes many of the characters introduced in her previous books, Showbiz and Staged.

Summer Must Haves | Tips & Tricks

Every Summer I always find myself reaching for the same products that are vacation must haves. Here's what gets me thru the warm Summer days and some tips & tricks for Summer survivial!

It Cosmetics was nice enough to send me their CC Cream last Summer and it is perfection. It's an SPF 50 and the light formula is the perfect tan for my porcelain skin. It blends easy with just your fingers and really helps even everything out!

It's no secret that I am obsessed with nail polish and in the Summer I crave the bright and fun colors. Essie's Summer Collection is absolute perfection. I have 5 of the 6 colors and they are all super pigmented and opaque formulas. Shown is 'Private Weekend' and 'Saltwater Happy'. I also absolutely love the Marc Jacobs Beauty polishes and 'Shocking' is the perfect pink. I have it on my nails as I'm typing this.

NYX Butter Glosses are the best lippies for Summer. The colors just pop and they're easy to apply on the go. Two of my fave colors are 'Peaches and Cream' and 'Apple Strudel'.

Last but certainly not least, two products that are MUSTS if you hit the beach. The Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration After Sun and the SPF are two holy grail products. The SPF has a 12 hour moisturizer ribboned and applying it makes you skin fill soft, smooth, and protected. But were Hawaiian Tropic really hit the mark was with the After Sun. This stuff smells too die and it cools down your skin after being out in the sun, but on top of that it gives you 24 moisturization!

Now onto the Tips & Tricks to survive Summer.

Trick: Apply your sunscreen while being naked. Okay, okay, I know that sounds strange and it is. But I swear by this tip. Here's why it works; without having your bathing suit on, you'll be able to really apply the lotion to all over your skin and won't have to worry about missing spots near the edges of your suit. Go ahead and try it next time you're hitting the beach or pool and thank me later.

Tip: When on vacation, take a hair heat break! Every year, I bring my blow dryer and straightener with me and I don't even reach for them! (This year I used my straightener once to curl my hair after it had been blow dried two days before.) Your hair will be surviving the elements already, the sun, salt water, and pool water, it will need the vaca from other damaging things as well. Work with your hair's natural texture; for me, that's wearing it wavy with some mousse and hair spray. The braid has made a comeback and in a big way. It's a simple, pretty, and perfect Summer hairstyle.

Trick: This trick is kinda silly, but I have to included it...CRUSHED ICE. Okay, I know you read that and said "Kayla, that's not a trick. It's a common thing for most people." My ice machine in my fridge has been on the fritz, but on vacation, the fridge there is brand new and makes crushed ice. To me, it makes the drinks colder and more fun.

Tip: Read more! As a grown up, Summer really means the same thing as it does every other season, but if you're fortunate enough, you get to escape the office and head on a trip. If you don't have the funds or time to get the road to get away for a few days, pick up a book! Reading is a trip in it's self. It's no secret that I read A LOT. But I always try to maximize my reading in the Summer. It helps break up the routine of every day life. I read 3 and 1/2 books on vacation this year; Those Girls, I Take You, The Good Girl, and I'm finishing Grey now. (Reviews will be up soon, so keep an eye out!)

Let me know what your must haves for Summer are, until next time. Laters, xo!

a book in review!

Brief Summary:
Twenty-six-year-old Megan Connors’s life is not going in the direction she thought it would. With her love life in the dumps, she doesn’t think it could get any worse until her long-time crush, Shane asks to move in. After all, he has no clue that she’s been in love with him for the past ten years. But fate has a way of turning things around.

As their relationship goes from “just friends” to lovers, life takes a turn for the unexpected. Shane isn’t the person that Megan once fell in love with all those years ago. Shane has a past; deadly secrets that are only revealed once the FBI knocks on Megan’s door.

Secrets, tragedy, and deceit force Shane—and Megan—to make choices that will change their lives forever. Once Megan learns the truth, will she still want to be with Shane? Or will someone else be at the end of her broken road?

The Broken Road contains mature themes, heart-pounding action, edge-of-your-seat suspense, graphic violence and steamy romance, with a side of strong language, drug dealing, and a lot of sarcastic humor.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. This story is definitely a ride. There isn't a shortage in the drama department in this book, that's for sure. I felt like there was a few times when the author could've developed the story a little bit more, but I was excited to see how it ended. I recommend this 3 star book to anyone who is looking for a change of pace with their next chick lit read, xo!

Author Bio:
Melissa grew up in Maryland by the Chesapeake Bay, where her favorite memories took place near the water. Not having the physical coordination for most sports and the tendency to trip over air, she gravitated to books. She was never seen without a book. With her imagination running wild, she began to write her own stories at the age of nine, with her first book about a pet-loving family and the adventures they had. As time passed and Melissa grew up, reading and writing always stayed with her, becoming her escape from everyday life.
Melissa now lives near Washington, D.C. with her family, dog and a lot of fish. In between the chaos of laundry, chasing after her three children and trying to not to burn dinner, Melissa finds her escape by feeding her addiction of reading and writing of love, suspense and sarcastic humor.

a book in review

Brief Summary:
This contemporary romance is Groundhog Day meets My Best Friend’s Wedding. Readers who like women’s fiction by Meg Cabot, Emily Giffin and Allison Winn Scotch will enjoy this romantic comedy.

Kate is alarmed to find out that her best friend Amy is getting married after dating for only six months. Her alarm turns to shock when she learns that the groom-to-be is Kate's old college ex. As the big day approaches, Kate's inability to hide her feelings is threatening to ruin her friendship with Amy.

Kate’s last minute, vodka-fueled wedding toast has her wishing she could turn back the clock and make things right. Imagine her surprise when she wakes up the next day and finds out she can.

Forced to relive one of the most painful weeks of her life, Kate slowly works to repair the damage she has done. In the process, she learns a lot about herself and the cynically charming best man, Ben.

I received this book in exchange for an honest review. I'm a sucker for anything where they have to re-live thru a moment of their life until they get it right kinda story (one of my fave movies is Christmas Every Day...please tell me you know what I'm talking about "Make a basket, Billy!") So when I read the summary for this book, I knew it was a must read! The author does a great job of telling the character's stories. This is one of those books that you'll want to see how it plays out differently each try. I recommend this 4.5 star book to anyone who loves a story that unfolds while the main character is finding themselves and righting their wrongs, xo!
