a book in review

Brief Summary:

THE #1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLEROn a warm summer morning in North Carthage, Missouri, it is Nick and Amy Dunne’s fifth wedding anniversary. Presents are being wrapped and reservations are being made when Nick’s clever and beautiful wife disappears. Husband-of-the-Year Nick isn’t doing himself any favors with cringe-worthy daydreams about the slope and shape of his wife’s head, but passages from Amy's diary reveal the alpha-girl perfectionist could have put anyone dangerously on edge. Under mounting pressure from the police and the media—as well as Amy’s fiercely doting parents—the town golden boy parades an endless series of lies, deceits, and inappropriate behavior. Nick is oddly evasive, and he’s definitely bitter—but is he really a killer?

I've sat down to read Gone Girl more than once in the past year or so. I got the sample on my nook early last year and just couldn't bring myself to buy it. I was not into and it was moving slow. Now I'm the type of person who when they start a book I need to finish it. So no one was more surprised than me when I didn't instantly buy it. Cut to this fall when everyone around me was reading (and raving!) about it. I knew it was time to bite the bullet and just buy the damn book. Well, I ended up reading it over the course of a weekend. I was obsessed with it. I've never been more gutted by a twist of a book before. I actually said to myself "wow, I wonder if I will get that "OMG" feeling the next time I read this" (there will be a next time, there's always a next time with me and books...) This story goes back and forth between the main characters. And it really plays into the concept of the whole theory that there's 3 sides to every story- his, hers, and the truth. If you haven't read Gone Girl and love to be on the edge of your seat, I suggest you run out and pick up this book asap! (It's on sale on iBooks for $3.99) Oh and the movie just came out, and rumor has it, it's pretty spot on. I can't wait to watch it!
